Hey Amber, I live in North Lawrenceville so not far from you. I moved into a house and had/have a slope issue in my back and front yards. It is very daunting when you want or need to do the work yourself. I tell myself that it won't get done in a day or even a year, but I have a 5 year plan. This make it less stressful and I feel like I accomplish something every year. The best advice I could give is to look at your neigbors yards, see what is growing. I checked out almost every book at the library about growing drought tolerant plants, planting on a hillside, improving drainage, improving the soil, and plants native to Georgia. It helps to get ideas of what you want. After less than a year, I know what I want to happen in my back and front yard and have been working on privacy screens, drainage, and forming border planting areas. Next year I am going to work on grass and the side yard.
Best advice: start on one area, one plant at a time.

Thanks so much for your advice Tifanee, do you know of any garden clubs in our area? I searched online and the only one I could find was in Gainesville and it meets in the middle of the week in the morning and it is more of a service club. I will keep searching, you are so right abotu the slope being daunting. I just yesterday went on Amazon and ordered some BHG books that had good reviews. Amber, for more plant information (BHG books will have great ideas but they won't necessarily explain growing in Georgia). Look for the Southern Living Garden Book and Gardening 'Round Atlanta. I found them helpful and I still do!
