I trim mine with a sharp shovel each year. Not all areas need trimming each year, some area are "extra rich" in terms of soil and need trimming twice in the growing season.

As I walk around the yard during the year, I pull out any noticeable runners right then and there.

If you have ornamental plants, I would not recommend spraying.

Well, the nature of zoyzia is to creep. That is what it was developed for, to creep and keep out weeds and fill in bare spots, used mostly in Americanized landscapes that have a few foundation shrubs, a lawn tree and then just grass.

It's the same with my bermuda. It drives me nuts. I do what Esh does -- I cruise around the border of the grass area and dig up the runners. Messy, but it works.

I have an area of ground cover -- part phlox and part ornamental raspberry -- that has been invaded by bermuda. That's the awful part -- when it gets in someplace that requires careful, tedious removal. UGH!

Thanks esh & bagsmom! I figured that would be the only way to keep that stuff outta the beds. I was hoping someone might know of something that would kill the grass without hurting my plants. As if!! I know its asking alot but I am so frustrated.

GGG, it sounds like you are describing my sisters yard who has the zoysia. I knew that was its nature but since so many people have it they would have some easy way to control it. grrrrrr

My neighbor has it. He wants to start gardening, so we started him off in the back. He might as well enjoy the zoysia in the front yard, since he will agonize over a flower bed if grass creeps into it. He LOVES his grass (I like to tease him about it :)
