Something different

I posted this in the trees forum a few minutes ago. I have a dogwood that is flowering differently this year than it ever has before. The bracts curl upward to form a "dome" over the true flowers. After a few minutes googling, I discovered there is a subspecies(urbiniana) of Cornus florida, called Mexican dogwood, that flowers exactly like this. Has anyone ever had a dogwood do this? Very strange to see this behavior manifest out of the blue.
