pruning annabelle

I am a little late getting to garden chores. I would like to prune my annabelles. I understand they bloom better on new wood. The stalks from last year have new buds appearing. Can I still cut these down to the ground to get new growth?

You can do that; you may not have as many flowers, but you will have some, I think. But see the attached link for more info. See "Method Two".
