Chicken Poo Question

We have a large pile of chicken poo that we got this time last summer. Since it was fresh last year, I just used it as a side dressing on my veggies since I was late to get a garden going. It's been under a tarp all year and my question is: Has it now aged enough to work into the garden and not burn the plants if I plant a week after it is added? Or, does it need to be composted first to make it not "burn" the plants, regardless of its age?

Thank you in advance for any input on this; I really appreciate it.
