Does anyone know of any real farmer's markets within a reasonable drive of Bethlehem? Towns in the general area include Winder, Athens, Lawrenceville, Auburn, Braselton, Carl, and Monroe.

Yeah, I know about that one. It's about a 1.5 to 2 hour drive from here, though. :-/

Suwanee and Duluth have a farmers market downtown on alternating Saturdays. I'm not sure when they start Maybe the end of May, but you can look it up on http://www.suwanee.com/

If you don't know Suwanee is next door to Lawrenceville for reference.

I know of two farmer's markets in the Athens area.

Saturdays from 9-1ish there's a farmer's market in the patio at Big City Bread. It's really a delightful thing since Big City Bread serves great capuccino, breakfast, lunch and baked goods so you can nosh while you browse. There are often artists and fresh-cut flowers. I've sold some stuff there myself when I had way too much from the veggie garden.

Athens Green Market - 7:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. each Saturday, Big City Bread courtyard, 393 N. Finley St.; organic produce from local farmers, with local artists selling crafts the first Saturday of each month; (706) 543-1187.

The second is the Comer Farmer's Market in Madison County, about 20 minutes northeast of Athens. Comer Farmers Market - 8 a.m.-noon, Sunset Ave., downtown Comer; fresh local veggies, fruit, plants, eggs and variety of artwork as well as children's activities, music and food; fourth season; Madison Street behind Foodlane and Dollar General; $10 booth fee, vendors welcome; Tina McCullough, jsmtem@netzero.net or (706) 783-4665.

A neat alternative to farmer's markets in the Athens area is http://www.locallygrowncoop.com/ which I highly recommend checking out. Not only can you get choice produce that's picked fresh just for you, you can also get locally produced beef, grains, baked goods, even soap and candles. There's a neat group of local farmers, gardeners and artists participating and everything I've gotten from them has been of the highest quality.

Thanks everyone! I'll definitely be visiting some of these. And I've eaten at Big City Bread before, excellent sandwiches. I'll have to drop in this weekend and check out the goods. Oh, and you just made my day. locallygrowncoop.com has SPELT BREAD! I am a happy camper. :D

This isn't necessarily a Farmers Market, but a Co Op. You get an email on Sunday night of the items available for the week, place your order by Tuesday afternoon, and pick up your order on Thursday afternoon on Atlanta Highway in Athens near Red Lobster. Among the member farms/growers are two different dairies (both cow and goat) a bakery, mill, and candle/soap maker. I think they'll let you try a week or two before paying the $35 ( I think) annual membership fee. Every thing they have is very, very fresh since it is pretty much picked or made to order.

There's a really cool farmers market in alpharetta now..
    Check it out at Alpharettafarmersmarket.com

I was a vendor there last year and had decent luck... The main reason I did not make a lot of money was because I did not have enough product! Normally I sold out of most all I brought.

This year, I've started even three months ago getting things ready so I expect a pretty profitable season.

    Hello,
The Green Door, Castleberry's Local Fresh Market is not now taking applications for the 2009 growing season.
This is an exciting time for historic Castleberry Hill, a vibrant community bustling with boutiques, coffee shops, restaurants, and art galleries. Residents are looking for a fresh alternative to the areas chain grocery stores. The Green Door is seeking sustainable and small batch food producers for our weekly Sunday market. The space is covered with bathroom facilities, ample parking, and a loading bay.

Please email us for an application. Complete the application and return it to us. The market will open May 24, 2009.

    Sincerely, Charles M. Bryant
