Need ideas for grass seed

I live in Southeast Georgia (actually Brunswick, which is right next to St. Simons Island and Jekyll Island).

We bought a home a few years ago that had not had anything done in the backyard for 20+ years. We finally cleared some of the pine tress and all of the pine straw in the backyard. We are putting irrigation in the backyard, too.

Question: I would like grass in the backyard, but I cannot afford to pay for pallets of St. Augestine. We have St. Augestine in the front yard. Is there any grass seed that will work? There will be some shade during the day but sun, too.

I would contact your local extension office for some recommendations - nothing beats local recommendations when it comes to grass and these guys spend a lot of time answering grass questions.

You can of course use "plugs" for creeping grasses like St. Augustine. The plugs will grow and gradually fill in.

I would love to hear that you've found a source for the St. Augustine plugs. It's such a terrific grass. Please don't consider Bermuda - you'll hate it, promise.
