I have been planning to get some for me as well. I just haven't had the time.

We got ours in Mabelton because it was the only place we could find closest to the city. We searched under drum and barrel recyclers to find them. They are Advanced Drum.

I just got five 55 gal. drums FREE from a car wash just a few blocks away. They had wheel cleaner in them. I have washed them out good with soap and soda. Painted them with a primer so far. Will paint with house paint.

Dickerson, Advanced Drum Service in Mableton wants $25.00 per drum and they are 11 miles away from me.

The ones on Craigs List are even farther away and sell for $15.00 to $25.00. Most want $20.00.

The $25 drums (which used to be much cheaper) are considered usable in an organic garden because they are food grade. Typically drums previously filled with toxic chemicals are not considered food grade, even if washed because plastic is porous. Personally I would abstain from using that one in a veggie garden.

No Peaceful, in general, there are no recyclers in and around the city for the food grade barrels. When people order the (often juice concentrate) they empty the barrels (for bars etc who use the concentrate on tap) and the company comes to get the empty barrel and bring a new one. They recycle the barrels at Mabelton who then sell the barrels.
You can however purchase rain barrels, and look for them at yard sales and garage sales or again, on Craig's List. I've found people who move sometimes can't take them along and they are inexpensive.

Found a pace on Craigslist with 55 gal. food grade barrels for $10 each. The only problem is they are in SC. It looks like he has quite a few.

Maybe if there is enough people interested we could get a group together. I know I wouldn't mind getting few or more myself.
