About your tomatoes:
If you thought that the sun is too hot/harsh for them then You should have planted them in the afternoon. This way they would,ve gotten few hours of sun, shining at an angle.
That would have been an adjustment for them for the following day. Actually, it is a good practice to plant seedings in the late afternoon, water them real good. This way the plants will adjust better.
I alway water my seedings (also dugged up for translant from garden) thoroughly. Then wait for 15 minutes and plant/tranplant them. Again, after planting, must water so that fine soil particles pack themselves aroun the roots. This is also called "getting the air out"

I am just beginning to see the first signs of life on my brugmansia roots.

I think the air has been really dry, too. And hotter than average. Even established plants can look wilty when the humidity is low. Maybe you could give your maters a little man made shade until they get a little more acclimated. like small tents or something.

Confederate rose and lantana camara just pushed out some leaves end of last week here.

It has been very warm and dry the last few days, hoping for some rain this weekend for transplanting. Even a light sprinkle of pine needles may give enough shade to protect those tender tomato seedlings.

Mine lantanas from last year just started showing some new growth. Also, the temps from last week were abnormal. Now cooler and rainier weather is here. Good for the plants.

My parents live in zone 7-B and their Confederate Rose has been putting out leaves for about three-four weeks. It's huge and very well established.

All of my lantanas are showing new growth, but it will be awhile before flowers happen. Not hot enough yet.
