Little fushia flowers with a 'cup' of seeds?

First I want to say thank you for all the help I've gotten and will get here. I am so glad I found this forum.

Here are a couple pictures of what I'm trying to get looking nice again. We are in a rental house in Savannah, and the grounds have been seriously neglected. I'm not very knowledgeable about gardening or landscaping, but I think something beautiful can be made out of this with the native plants around here.

Here is a little plant that I dug up from the back yard, but I don't know what it is.

There aren't any right now, but these produce a small fushia flower with a little "cup" of what looks like black seeds sitting next to it. These also seem to love harsh conditions and sandy soil. The leaves have a slightly waxy feel them and are water-filled. Any idea what this may be?

love the yard, wonder why he says portulaca only lasts a couple of months? Mine persist until frost here.

Rosie, I don't know. I have the same experience as the expert: portulaca only lasts about 8 weeks. Once I found the video and recognized the difference, I went to all hot pink purslane. No more portulaca for me. Thank goodness the leaves make it so easy to distinguish.

love_the_yard, surprised at your answer. Wonder if y'all are just much hotter in J'ville. My portulaca reseeds, late Spring. Have seen purslane growing wild and beautiful on your FL gulf coast. Think the difference is that purslane leaves are so much bigger = more succulence.
