Dethatching AFTER Crabgrass Prevention?

All of the crabgrass preventer I have seen says you cannot dethatch or aerate your lawn after application because it will basically disturb the prevention barrier. This past weekend, I heard a speaker at a community gardening event say that he has found that not to be true.

Has anyone else done this? (Aerated or dethatched after crabgrass prevention?) And, if so, did it work for you? I have St. Augustine and I have put out Halts Crabgrass Preventer, as well as a Sta-Green weed product for broadleaf.
