it looks like a Salvia to me. Salvia mexicana 'Compton's?

that's my best guess. the shoots and flowers look like Salvia Splendens, but not the leaves.

Maybe you're onto something in the Salvia category. I'm not sure it's Compton's, but the leaf looks like it may be similar and the overall form is alot closer than what I had been looking at in my previous searches.

Yay!!! I think you got it scmatlanta & GGG. I didn't have a clue. Thanks to everyone else for their input as well. I'll put this in my notes, and maybe I can find it from seed or order it somewhere if not locally grown.
