I have been growing callaloo for about 6 years here in Atlanta. I have never had a problem until this year.

Callaloo is a sun loving plant. I planted my seeds in a flat in late May and in about 2 weeks I had many little plants in the flat and now it is almost August and none of the plants have grown more than 2 inches and they have not developed their 4th set of leaves. Usually by this time the callaloo plants would be over 5 feet tall. I am trying to grow two different kinds of amaranths, one a red ornamental and the other is the callaloo variety, neither one is growing. Also my friend in north Georgia, who gave me the callaloo seeds, says his callaloo did not grow. I gave some of my seeds to another friend of mine and he called me and said he planted some of the seeds and some little plants came up but they did not grow. Has anyone else tried growing amaranths in Georgia this year? I would like to know what you experience has been.
