New book on Southern native plants

Iris GW

Recently a new book was published entitled: "Best Native Plants for Southern Gardens".

The author is Gil Nelson and he is already a published author on southeastern plants. He lives in south Georgia, works across the state line in Florida and is a botanist/naturalist experienced in native plants for the southeast. His books always have great pictures too.

I just ordered a copy and will let you know what I think. I am hoping it will prove to be a valuable resource. There hasn't been a southern native plant book for landscaping published in quite some time. Although Allan Armitage's "Native Plants for North American Gardens" book is a good reference, it doesn't talk much about making choices and addressing conditions in the southeast.

The Georgia Native Plant Society has had Gil speak on several occasions - his most recent topic is about native hollies and he'll be discussing that at our conference in September.
