I don't have a picture but someone probably knows the name from my description.Its a tree that grows around 6 to 8ft tall with red blooms and foliage like the mimosa tree.It grows wild here and must reseed as they are everywhere.The seed pods look like mimosa seed pods to.They are growing along highways,in the woods,etc.Given a name I could google it and see if thats what I'm seeing.Thanks..Debbie

Robinia is one tree that has compound leaves like a mimosa and gets seed pods. Some people call it Acacia. The colors range from deep purple to white and all in between.

I can still picture the roadsides full of the plant you describe when visiting St Simons. I believe you are talking about Purple Sesban(Sesbania punicea).

darn, another non-native tree seeding itself around - apparently especially a pest in wet areas.
