partridgeberry questions
Hello,
I have a patch of largely bare ground to the north of my house. To the east is a sidewalk and some medium to tall hickories and oaks along with a japanese cherry that all serve to provide heavy shade in the morning. Just to the west of the bare area is a small to medium hickory that is maybe 20 feet tall. The soil is hard and rocky and any good top soil that was there in the past has eroded away.
Is this an area where I have a chance at getting partridgeberry to grow and stop some of the erosion? The slope is maybe 2-3 feet over 10 feet.
If I go with partridgeberry, what time of year should it be planted and how dense might it grow?
The last thing I want is something that just takes over like that dang english ivy that I'm always fighting on the other side of the house. My wife keeps saying "just plant grass" but I'm skeptical that I can get any grass to grow well enough that I'm not just mowing dirt all summer.
I am in southern Cherokee county (just north of Atlanta)
Thanks
-Dan
