Winter 2009 - 2010? Weather speculation?

| So, have any of you heard any rumors about our winter? Is there any correlation between lots of rain in the spring, summer, and fall -- and perhaps snow and ice in the winter?
Can you hear the hopeful tone in my email voice? I would love a snow day or two, or three.....
Have you seen any signs in nature that y'all put any faith in? |

| Haven't read anything on the subject, but it does seem reasonable that if the current trend toward plentiful precip continues, we'll have more snow and ice than usual this winter. I have mixed feelings about it though, it IS beautiful, but on the other hand, my dogs think they are MUCH too good to go outside and take care of business when snow is on the ground. |

| I visit a weather forum and there was speculation a while back that this could be a very cold winter. As time has passed I'm not so sure thats the thinking anymore. Someone mentioned yesterday that conditions could set up that would make December warmer than normal. This weekend looks to be quite a bit warmer than normal. I hit 74 today. For once I would like to look back and say, now that was a cold winter!! |

The Farmer's Almanac is predicting that this coming winter will be warm and wet, in the Southeastern US. The prediction from the NOAA Climate Prediction Center seems to agree so far. The CPC only forecasts the upcoming 90-days and their update, that includes Feb. will be published on Nov. 15. I don't care much for snow and ice (Brrr!) and horrendous heating bills, but many of the plants I grow don't like warm winters either! I have a bumper crop of Acorns and Holly berries this year, if that means anything and the furry tree-rats are gorging themselves on Pine nuts, so much so that the ground under the Pines is carpeted with hulls and cobs. I keep checking to see if there are any female cones left on the trees for Holiday decorations! At least, they don't bother the Hollies. I just wish it would dry out for a few days, so I can finish planting some Spring-flowering bulbs. |

| Average to mild according to the squirrels. The nests are high this year. |
