Cipollini onions

Anybody tried growing cipollini onions in Northwest Ga. or there about? They are the little button onions that look like tiny vidalias. Don't know when I should plant the seed and can I start them indoors.

RE: Cipollini onions

Yes, I have grown them. They will be smaller than you may expect, but they do well. I plant mine very very early and leave them outside...they can also be sown under "tents" earlier in February and frost cloth used if needed. I use the tenting to keep the soil warm. I've grown onions from starts and I find that transplanting can slow them, but not much more than planting them in the fall and harvesting in the spring (winter will slow growth too). They are lovely little onions for fresh eating.
