I just hadda start another thread! Jamilla called me today and asked if we needed any help. Isn't she sweet!? She's taking the night before off of work so she will be wide awake for us. I hope to have recovered from my trip somewhat by then! If I'm not too tired I'll be making some kind of pasta dish. Murray won't want me to come of I don't!

See you all soon!

Does anyone know how to get rid of japanes beetles??

I'm bring lots of gardening stuff, pots, lots of pussy willow bushes starts. I've been reading about what our gardener friends our bringing. I would like to do some side trades.

GRANNY, what do you need? I could use arum or any hosta.

BETTY HAGEY, I have anemone, sept charm if you still need it. What else do you need?

HUNTERMOM, I have red bee balm if you still need it. I would be interested in your bird house.

STORYMY WEATHER & HUNTERMAN: What color is your anemone? I have sept. charm pink do you need any?

MIMI, I always love your garden gems**there the wonderful!!

TWILIA,what do you need? Which lungworth do you have? This plant is always needed.

I really don't have a list. I do have bittersweet bushs, forsytha bushs, columbine, ajuga, naked lady, daylily (no orange), wild violets, bishop weed, autumn joy, chives, & lily of the valley. I'm not gardening much as I have in the past. Let me know if anyone need these plants & I will dig them up.

To anyone new you will be over joyed with the amount of plants, number of different varietys, all for part of your plant or garden junk, friendly gardeners, & great food. There is also a swap in the fall. Bring your whole family.
See you there ******* Cottage Gardener **** Diane

RE: Central Ohio Plant Swap and Pot Luck part II

diane,

I have snowdrop anemone (white) - I've seen the hummingbirds collecting the fluff from the seeds before, so now I always let it go to seed for them.

I think I have some sept charm, but now I can't remember!

 o
RE: baby arborvitae

Barbi, was that you who wanted the baby arborvitae? I'll save them for you.

RE: Central Ohio Plant Swap and Pot Luck part II

Hi folks,

Sorry I haven't posted and been chatting, I've just been so busy. But, it is nice to know that you are all hanging in there. Granny, Beverly, and Mimi sorry you guys have been having problems. Here is a list of what I'm thinking of bringing:

Daylilies--
Custard Candy
East Hampton
Etched Eyes
Halfmoon Keys
Tet Siloam Double Classic

Other stuff:
Forget-Me-Nots (blue)
Varigated Soloman Seals

I think Dick has a flat of daylily seedlings he wants me to bring.

Dick and Paul won't be coming this year. They are going to a gun collectors convention the same weekend. ---Boys and their toys ;~)

I won't be bringing any hosta this year. They are still recovering from the freeze we had last year. I even had a few that took a hit this winter. Strange.

Love to all!
Trish

RE: Central Ohio Plant Swap and Pot Luck part II

I am still potting things up, but here is what I have so far:
un-named variegated and green hostas
Pennysworth daylily
Clearwater and Tuscora #1 Jerusalem Artichokes
Japanese Variegated Silvergrass
Zebra Grass
I have at least 5 or 6 trades of each of these plants plus one rooted cutting of a weeping willow tree. I plan on digging up several named hostas, some lamiums, and some ostrich ferns. I don't have any extra tomatoes this year. I lost quite a few of them to frost a few weeks ago.
There are a couple of hostas that I am looking for if anyone has them, Fire Island and Inniswood.
See ya at the swap,
James

 o
RE: Central Ohio Plant Swap and Pot Luck part II

In the interest of ful diclosure, I have, at this point:

I'm bringing pulled pork and lavender cheesecake.

Already mentioned, but not in any way to be held to previous statements are:

PrincessMimi: pasta entre ("x fingrs pls be cavatapi x2)

So...what else is out there?

 o
RE: Central Ohio Plant Swap and Pot Luck part II

I'm bringing chocolate chip dip (tastes like cookie dough) and I don't know what else yet.

 o
RE: Central Ohio Plant Swap and Pot Luck part II

I'm thinking dirt cake. I thought that would be appropriate.....

Yesterday I potted up a few yellow mums, sorry I don't know the name. Also potted a few pineapple mints. I have quite a bit of the mum, so please let me know if you want some.

I was also wondering if there are going to be many "junkers" there? If so, I may bring some things that must be good for something, I just can't figure out what.

 o
RE: Central Ohio Plant Swap and Pot Luck part II

anyone have varigated Pineapple mint?
Kelly, I'll take one of your mints
How about varigated sage, or just some sage?
I'll bring some food Alison, but I don't know what
Japanese tree starts?
Margie, I'd like a Arum.
OK.....OK..... I just want it allllllll.

 o
RE: Central Ohio Plant Swap and Pot Luck part II

Will anyone be bringing any Missouri Primrose? with the lovely big yellow flowers? One of my friends coming with me really wants one, I told her I would check early to see if anyone had one.
Right now I have 5 committed to coming, for the head count - that does include me.

 o
RE: Central Ohio Plant Swap and Pot Luck part II

If you mean oenethera (sic) by "missouri primrose" I have some! It's even big enough to share! I'll stick a chunk in a bag that morning if that's what she wants. I can't promise that I'll pot it up. I'm crazy busy getting everyone ready for the trip.

See you all soon!

~~Mimi

 o
RE: Central Ohio Plant Swap and Pot Luck part II

Mimi,
That is EXACTLY what she wants!! thanks so much.

Kelly

 o
RE: Central Ohio Plant Swap and Pot Luck part II

I've got two more coming with myself, my husband and Collin. My sister and a friend from work will be there with us.
We'll probably bring pasta salad and something else. My sister's a great cook, so we'll expect something tasty from her- no pressure!
We've been digging and dividing. We've got campanula takesimana, various hostas, mint, salvia and it's too dark to see what else right now! We'll try to get a turtlehead start and maybe some sedum and various coral bells as well. We've also got some stacks of gardening magazines for us to drool over!
Getting excited!
Stephanie

 o
RE: Central Ohio Plant Swap and Pot Luck part II

Kelly, I'm so glad your pineapple mint is varigated. I like all kinds of varigated stuff.
Is that Missouri Primrose the one that opens up in the evening and you can actually see it opening or is that one called Evening Primrose? I'd like one of those too.

 o
RE: Central Ohio Plant Swap and Pot Luck part II

Bakemom BINGO you got it.
Trish glad to see you back. the custard candy daylily sound interesting.
Alison I wouldn't mind some lemon balm
Any unique mints sound good to me.
I wouldn't mind another primrose. Mine looks so good right now but not quite ready to split and I have another spot that needs one.
Hosta, growing up my parents had the evening primrose planted in the front yard and it became a gathering place for the entire block in the evenings to watch the flowers open. It was really weird too, it told better time than most clocks.

 o
RE: Central Ohio Plant Swap and Pot Luck part II

Hostalavista,
I have a Arum with your name on it.
I think I will bring a Cheese Ball.If I have time I will try to make a Robert Redford Cake.

 o
RE: Central Ohio Plant Swap and Pot Luck part II

Hi all!

I plan to bring the following plants:
Whirlwind Hostas
Sedums (look similar to Autumn Joy but with lilac/purple flowers)
Sprite Astilbe
Red Heart Althea
Miss Manners Obedient Plant
Pink Amaryllis belladonna bulbs

More importantly in the food arena - I plan to bring peanut butter cup cookies and fruit salad.

 o
RE: Central Ohio Plant Swap and Pot Luck part II

Hey Steph what hostas did I get last year that you wanted starts of or did you end up getting them, I can't remember. Let me know if you are looking for something in particular.

karlarhae I wouldn't mind a start of the sedum that looks like Autumn Joy.

 o
RE: Central Ohio Plant Swap and Pot Luck part II

Michelle,
I can't remember either. I think it may have been Strip Tease, which we do now have. Did you get Hillbilly Blue from the swap? That's a nice one that we don't have.
Collin is still debating what he's bringing for Noah and Naomi. Should be interesting!!
Stephanie

 o
RE: Central Ohio Plant Swap and Pot Luck part II

I am really interested in attending!!!
Looks like an awesome amount of people will be there.

I live in the Pittsburgh area and was wondering if anyone else that is attending is close to Pittsburgh? If so, would you be interested in car pool?

Thanks
Christie

 o
RE: Central Ohio Plant Swap and Pot Luck part II

If I can get some time off work and mothering my little one to dig plants I plan on bringing the following:

Japanese Blood Grass
Carex 'Ice Dance'
White Bleeding Heart
Helianthus maximilii (spelling???)
Monarda Raspberry Wine
Achillea (can't remember the name but it's purple)
Smoke Bush
Coreopsis
Baptisia australis

I haven't decided what I'm bringing to eat yet but you can bet it will be something chocolate. I appreciate all the wonderful food everyone brings, it's all so yummy!

And finally just let me say that I've got nothing against children, I have a daughter of my own. I totally get that people want to teach their kids about gardening--me included. I'm already telling Isabella the names of flowers and plants in the yard and she's only 13 months old. If the kids are into the gardening and want to pick plants I have no issue with that. I was referring more to someone who would have a child who's so clearly not interested just so they can take more plants in round one. Personally I can't think of a time when I just "Had" to have a certain plant, although I always find a few treasures that I'm happy to have. I bring way more than I take home and I enjoy the people and the food as much as anything else. When Izzy gets old enough I hope she'll like gardening and want to come to the swap with me, what a treat that would be! So, I really didn't mean to offend anyone with my question earlier. Several people have e-mailed me to thank me for asking the question and to tell me I'm brave for having asked because they wanted to but were afraid of the backlash. I don't know about brave --more like naive about how upset it would make people. So, that's all I have to say about that. I just felt I needed to clear up that I'm not some anti-child ogre. Now I'm just looking forward to some fun.

 o
RE: Central Ohio Plant Swap and Pot Luck part II

Hey Granny, how about just bringing Robert Redford! ha
Garden girl I'm interested in Smoke Bush, is it the red or green one? Either one is fine with me, interested in the Carex Ice dance too. gotta go. kids need attending.

 o
RE: Central Ohio Plant Swap and Pot Luck part II

Ok Hostalavista,
I have a Robert Redford with your name on it!!!LOL
Gardengirl,
I think you can relax now and not worry your pretty little head off anymore.I think it's pretty much over with.We can all have a great fun time now and I'm looking forward to seeing everyone again.
I had a recipe for lemonade made with the lemon balm. But I don't know what I did with it.May be able to find one on line. It's the best tasting lemonade I have ever had.
I can bring some fruit sented sage that makes a wonderful tea if anyones interested.
Counting down the days.
Granny57x

 o
RE: Central Ohio Plant Swap and Pot Luck part II

Gardengirl,
oooh! A white bleeding heart? I hope you are bringing a couple of those! What color is your coreopsis? I am looking for a pink one.
So, do most of you know of SpringHill Nursery? and their $1 sale? Well, last weekend they had an early $2 sale, and I couldn't resist it. I bought 3 coreopsis sterntaler, they came in a bag, like the mail order plants they are, and I planted 2 and potted one up for the swap, so if anyone is interested let me know. I also bought some other plants that I can't even remember now....

Granny, the fruit scented sage sounds interesting....

ChristieB, I hope you can find someone to ride with. Unfortunately, I'm closer to Indiana...

 o
RE: Central Ohio Plant Swap and Pot Luck part II

Hey Kelly,
I have a fruit scented sage with your name on it:)
And your Coreopsis Stemtaler sounds different.hummm. LOL
When is Spring Hill's $1.00 sale start or have I already missed it?
Hostalavista,
You tending those Beautiful Grandchildren of yours?? Aren't they fun?You ought to bring them to the swap this year. They'd have much fun just running around and playing and meeting new kids to hang with,Good for everyone around.
Granny57x

 o
RE: Central Ohio Plant Swap and Pot Luck part II

Hostalavista, the smoke bush is the red variety. It's about 6" tall. Just a little fella that obviously self-sowed in the garden. Looks very healthy though.

Kelly-Oh, I spotted 2 white bleeding heart seedlings I can bring. One is pretty decent size. The coreopsis are the lancelota type and they are golden yellow.

If either of you are interested in a private trade let me know. I can't wait--only a little over a week to go and my boss said I could take next Thursday or Friday off so I have more time to get ready.

 o
RE: Central Ohio Plant Swap and Pot Luck part II

I've potted up hosta Twist of Lime and Yellow Boa.

I had a white bleeding heart but I gave it to my paper man Monday. Almost all my volunteers are red.

I've added many hosta to my trade list. Surely someone wants to trade for my hosta.

mao

RE: Central Ohio Plant Swap and Pot Luck part II

I tried to go into your hotmail .com and it came up that it wasn't properly installed.??
I would love to see your trade list but don't know how or where to go.I'm all for trading for Hostas.

 o
RE: Central Ohio Plant Swap and Pot Luck part II

Granny,
Nope, you haven't missed the $1 sale - it will be soon, either at the end of May or somewhat early in June, I think. Spring Hill is apparently the distributor for both their catalog/website and Michigan Bulb, and another company I can't remember right now. So, what they do, is try to clear out their unsold merchandise that can't be shipped once it gets too hot. They have this warehouse area that they open up and everything is $1. EVERYTHING!! last year I got plant id stakes and tall rubber coated stakes in packs of 3 and up. I have gotten daylilies, mini roses, salvia (?), balloon flower, delphinium, clematis, climbing rose bushes, etc., etc. They sell trees, bulbs, plants, bare root, yadda yadda. If you haven't picked up on it, I usually loose my mind when I get in there!!!
There are a couple downsides, it can be VERY crowded (plus its hot in there!), and the established plants are not always marked correctly and most of them don't have tags, so you need to grab some markers as you go in, and identify what you are getting - hopefully you have the right id to mark them - I figure even if it turns out not to be what I thought, it was only a $1 and all plants are great! Anyway, that's off the thread, but if you want me to let you know when it is, I will.

Everyone is listing wonderful things, and I'm feeling greedy, greedy, greedy!!!

 o
RE: Central Ohio Plant Swap and Pot Luck part II

Hi everyone!!!
Well I was right, I won't have alot to bring this year with it being my first. But next year I am hopeful to have lots more. I'm so excited to meet other gardeners in Central Ohio. I plan to bring a great pumpkin dip with pie crust twists to add to the food table. See you all soon!!!

Kelly_OH,
Off thread or not I would like very much to hear about the Spring Hill $1 sale too. I had no idea they did such a thing, and would love to go. Could you please email me the info on it?
Thanks!!

 o
RE: Central Ohio Plant Swap and Pot Luck part II

Granny, others have e-mailed me with not trouble. I don't know what the problem could be. You don't have an e-mail addy listed or I'd drop you a note.

RE: Central Ohio Plant Swap and Pot Luck part II

Linda_ I'm bringing some Evening Primrose. I have one potted that I will put your name on. You'll have to surprise me with your end of the trade. I do finally have a bit of shade and put in a couple of mini hostas.

I lied! I did find time to check in today!

See you at the swap!

~~Mimi

 o
RE: Central Ohio Plant Swap and Pot Luck part II

I have been potting some more mint, monarda, a columbine and something that I believe is a really tall sunflowerish plant with lots of blooms on it - sorry, I have NO idea what the name is, but my friend had it, I liked it and she shared last summer. :)
I have also been working on bowling balls and a polish ball that I am thinking of giving as a door prize. I wanted opinions first before I completely finish it, though, since one of you may be stuck with it for a while. I wanted to add the pict in the post, but I'm not that advanced yet, plus the pict is too large and I'm too tired to fiddle with it! Anyway, I attached the ball to a stand today, but it is missing a finishing touch. What I'm looking for are opinions about what to apply where the ball is attached to the stand. Its very plain and ho-hum right now. I was thinking wire and maybe some glass, but the only colors I have are green, blue and purple. Also, I'm running out of time! So, if anyone wants to take a look and give me an opinion, please do! otherwise it may just come as is. It is not really large, maybe a foot high.

Here is a link that might be useful: polish ball on stand.

 o
RE: Central Ohio Plant Swap and Pot Luck part II

Mao,Steph,
I will get back with you on your trade list.
I don't have a list made up yet,So I will post what I have ready to pot up.If any of these intrest either of you let me know.My list is short right now but I will be adding to it soon.

RE: Central Ohio Plant Swap and Pot Luck part II

HI, all! Hope you had a great Mother's day. Had a busy weekend. I think James has somewhere between 50 and 70 trades potted up so far and there is more we want to share. He will have to get on and give a detailed list. I know he has several types of hostas and ferns but don't know which ones for sure. I will let him know that people are asking and try to get him on late tonight or tomorrow with a list. Hey all I have also joined facebook so if anyone wants up dates on the kids look me up and send a message. I'm on as Michelle Lee Hallman

 o
RE: Central Ohio Plant Swap and Pot Luck part II

Too funny -- the decorated pots got sold right off my front porch! ("Sold" not "stole", which is the way things usually go around here.)

But I have extra sets of face cloths and soap, and I picxked up three pots of Royal Standard hostas this weekend -- looking forward to Saturday!

 o
RE: Central Ohio Plant Swap and Pot Luck part II

Hey Kelly just got a chance to look at the polish ball. How about some clear marbles? Or some ball bearings? Just a couple of thoughts. See you Sat.

I will have a ton of bareroot gingko saplings for folks just to carry off. I will bring some plastic grocery bags to hold them, but you can just take them at your will. Normally they would be composted, but folks are nuts (he he) about this tree. Remember, we don't know if it's male or female until it's producing fruit or not. I have a female and the fruit does smell, but it's part of the plant's personality.

 o
RE: Central Ohio Plant Swap and Pot Luck part II

Hi! I was wondering if it was too late to rsvp for the plant swap/pot luck? I would really like to attend if it's alright with everyone. Any objections? -Keri

RE: Central Ohio Plant Swap and Pot Luck part II

Hello everyone,

I've been keeping an eye on the plant swap and pot luck post and follow-ups and I'm excited. I hope that it's not too late, but I would like to join everyone on Saturday. It'll be me plus my mom.

Fina

 o
RE: Central Ohio Plant Swap and Pot Luck part II

Welcome Fina!
Granny we will put your name on a Lemon Delight for the praying hands. James says that one of his favorite of our hostas he got from you (June). Our hosta bed out front is looking great.
Peace.

 o
RE: Central Ohio Plant Swap and Pot Luck part II

After I posted that we'd bring a birdhouse, Mike informed me he did not have any made. However, that must have guilted him into building, cause now we have two! One dark, one light. Maybe we'll put one in for a door prize and the other for the swap.
We have tons of violets, and lots of hosta seedlings. We also have H. Lancifolia, H. Francee, H. Venricosa, and H. Golden Tiara. May still be some digging going on...
Granny, I understand about the digging- I'm impressed you got so far to begin with! I'll just have to talk James into sharing his Praying Hands- if not this year, next! : )
Steph

 o
RE: Central Ohio Plant Swap and Pot Luck part II

Welcome Fina!!
Steph,
I can scrounge up another praying hands for you.My friend Mel is coming to the swap with me and she'll be here Sat.Morn around 8am.I'll have her pot one up for you.Would you consider trading the praying hands for a Golden Hands?
Michelle,
Thank you for saving a Lemon Delight for me.I'm so happy you liked the June Hosta.I think out of all the Hostas I have and I have alot,The June Hosta is my favorite.Mine is about 7 years old and it's absolutely Beautiful.I think if anyone ever requested a June Hosta for a trade,I'd have to go out and buy them one.LOL
I'm sure by the time fall swap comes around I will be able to have a larger selection to trade with.
Not Long Now!!!

 o
RE: Central Ohio Plant Swap and Pot Luck part II

Granny,
That'd be great- but I don't know what Golden Hands is!? I don't think that's on my list, is it? I'll send you an email and hopefully you'll get it. I did get yours!
Steph

RE: Central Ohio Plant Swap and Pot Luck part II

Hi You Guys! I'm baaaaaack! My trip was amazing! I'll tell anyone silly enough to ask me ALL about it on Saturday.

Right now I need you all to help me get the sand out of my brain. I know that I promised some Missouri primrose to Kelly's friend. I also dug some Sand Cherry saplings for someone. I cant remember who! HELP! Was it you? The arborvitae are marked for some one but I'm too tired to go look right now. Is there anything else that I promised to anyone. (Other than some pasta ala Mimi for Murray!)

Please, let me know asap. I only have tomorrow to get organized for the swap. In between getting the sand out of the suitcases and washing loads and loads of clothes!

I'm so excited! The swap is always soooooo much fun!!!!!

~~Mimi

Thanks!

 o
RE: Central Ohio Plant Swap and Pot Luck part II

Keri & Fina - Welcome!!! Glad you are coming to the swap! It's lots of fun. It will be nice to meet you!

I am getting really excited.

So glad to see Mimi back - safe and sound and with wonderful tales to tell!

It rained in 2002-2005 - and we had fun then. If it rains, we will still have fun. WE'RE GARDENERS...- we won't wilt in the rain.

See you soon......Beverly

 o
RE: Central Ohio Plant Swap and Pot Luck part II

Granny! Thanks so much! Juust let me know what you want. I have lots of mini hostas, st john's wort, sweet woodruff, you name it & I will try to bring it! Can't wait to meet everyone!

 o
RE: Central Ohio Plant Swap and Pot Luck part II

I want to apologize to everyone I have arranged side trades with, but I will be unable to come Saturday. My brother is very ill. I will do my best to keep the different plants alive in bigger and bigger pots for this fall, approximately when is the fall swap?
Kelly

 o
RE: Central Ohio Plant Swap and Pot Luck part II

Kelly, no need to apologize, hope your brother gets better quickly. We'll all be thinking about you. Keep us posted.
Granny I sent you an email, you must not have gotten it, I haven't heard from you. Does any of my stuff look appealing to you for a trade?
My left hand is killing me, this arthur-itis is acting up. Well it's actually my wrist.
This weather isn't helping any. It's h_ll getting older isn't it?
I did find a couple of Rue today, so I'll be bringing them, didn't get to spend much time in the flowers.
We'd all like to come early and help,
Mimi, you were going to bring me some Evening Primrose, is that the one that you can actually watch opening in the evening.
I'm like you, forgotten what I'm suppose to be trading.
I wanted to trade for a couple of Blue Mouse Ears,
someone had them but I don't remember who.

People let me know if we have a trade.

 o
RE: Central Ohio Plant Swap and Pot Luck part II

Kelly - I am sorry to hear that your brother is ill. I'll keep him in my prayers. I have no idea when the fall swap is going to take place. Mimi and I don't host that one. Over the years - it's different folks taking a turn at it. I'd say - keep checking here at the Get Togethers forum for that information.

So far - weather says it won't rain until later in the afternoon. Maybe we can dodge it.

See you all soon.......Beverly

 o
RE: Central Ohio Plant Swap and Pot Luck part II

Kelly,
I hope your brother feels better soon. We'll see you in the fall.
Best wishes,
Trish

 o
RE: Central Ohio Plant Swap and Pot Luck part II

Oh Kelly! I'm so sorry to hear about your brother. Prayers are going his way. See you in the fall.

Linda-The primrose that I have is yellow and flowers all day. I believe that Oenothera fruiticosa is the latin name for it. I hope that it's what you're looking for.

I'm going to pull my plants into the garage today so that they drain well. They got quite a soaking last night! Oure, my other neighbor was kind to water my plant babies and to feed and clean up after my fur babies while we were away so they are all in good shape. Fat and Sassy!

Well, now I have to go prepare my own breakfast. =( I've become spoiled aboard the ship!

See you soon!

RE: Central Ohio Plant Swap and Pot Luck part II

Kelly -

No problem, family first.

Last year the fall swap was in September. I'm not sure if it'll be the same time this year, but it'll get posted here eventually.

 o
RE: Central Ohio Plant Swap and Pot Luck part II

Oh, Kelly, don't even think about it. It is more important to be with your family. Know that you all are in my prayers. The plants can wait, they will just get bigger by fall.

Hosta & Granny you are in my prayers too. I know how it feels when you can't do what you want because it hurts too much.

Ok I know we have a hosta for Granny and Artichokes for Mel. Mouse what was I bringing you? It has been one of those weeks, actually more than a week now...if I promised anyone else please remind me.

Leaving tonight for swap. See you all tomorrow. Can't wait!

Oh and only 2 weeks and one day til schools out for summer.
Yeah!

peace.

 o
RE: Central Ohio Plant Swap and Pot Luck part II

I knew everyone would send thoughts and prayers to Kelly and her brother.
What a great group of people.
xaroleht, thanks for thinking of Granny and I, but I know alot of people are feeling the arthur this week.
I just have bouts of time with it. Sometimes by looking at me you can't even tell theres anything wrong.
I was wanting to get outside to get a few more plants but at this time too rainy. My husband (Sam) just came in and said we have gotten over 3" of rain this week. I said everything will be rotting in the ground, like our potatoes. I hope that doesn't happen.
I still don't know what I'm bringing to eat tomorrow.
Xaro, you do such a good job of getting ready for the swap, getting kids ready, plants and traveling not to mention your plants.
Mimi, too, with her cruise, children and plants, where is all that energy coming from.
And all the people driving from afar!
Oh I guess when your gardeners you can make anything work!!
OOHHH what we do for a new plant. Haha

 o
RE: Central Ohio Plant Swap and Pot Luck part II

I believe that we have an exceptionally great group of gardeners here. You're soooo right Linda! There are lots of caring people here.

Linda, the secret of my energy comes from CHOCOLATE!!!!! (much tastier than Popeye's spinach!) I'll be needing loads of that lovely confection to plow through the mountain of laundry that I have here today!

That reminds me...Michelle, I seem to remember you promised to bring me lots and lots of chocolate tomorrow. (tee! hee!)

Just remember woman gardeners... We are women. That means we can do ANYTHING for nine months!

CU Soon!

~~Mimi

 o
RE: Central Ohio Plant Swap and Pot Luck part II

mimi
are you still there?
i'm online today due to rain, i just sent bev an email to her email address, but you'll do in a pinch.
i'm getting ready to come to the swap, but am stumped on what to bring to eat. i'm driving down from akron area, any suggestions?

also, i have a single jack in the pulpit that managed to grow in a pot. can you use it for a door prize?

Bill

 o
RE: Central Ohio Plant Swap and Pot Luck part II

Hi Bill!

Glad to hear that you're coming! Your Jack would be a wonderful door prize! As far as food goes, what about some kind of salad you can pack in a cooler? You could also bring bread or desert stuff that won't need refrigeration. If I was you I'd be going to the local grocery and raiding their bakery so I didn't have to cook. I'd better go to the store now. No bread or milk after vacation and Murray won't let me go if I don't bring pasta!

See you real soon!

~~Mimi

 o
RE: Central Ohio Plant Swap and Pot Luck part II

I hope everyone wants some heirloom tomatoes. I just finished up potting up my last ones today. they're all pretty small because they were wintersown late, but I know they'll quickly catch up to all the tomato plants that were started early. anyway, I have 72 4 packs of tomatoes, several singles and lots of other plants to bring.

I think I'm going to make pumpkin muffins in a bit to bring for the potluck. those are sounding good right now. :)

Barbi

 o
RE: Central Ohio Plant Swap and Pot Luck part II

Yeah, Barbi. I'm happy to hear you say you're bringing tomatoes! We got some great ones last year at the swap and decided this year to try to do the same. (and, I promised my dad I'd get him one or two for his garden as well! He got some from the swap last year and really loved them.) I was getting nervous that we might actually not find any!
See everyone tomorrow! Can't wait!
Stephanie

 o
RE: Central Ohio Plant Swap and Pot Luck part II

Hi folks....I've been getting lots of emails and some phone calls from people interested in coming to the swap. I think we will have quite a few newbies! Should be fun.

I got a call from Betty and Ron...they are in from Michigan! I always like it when out of towners get here safe and sound.

Seems like folks are bringing lots of food goodies too.

Hostalavista - I have your munstead lavender. Granny - I have your starts of lavendar Grosso.

What could be better - plants for trading, potluck food, gardeners, and fun!!!

See you soon.........Beverly

 o
RE: Central Ohio Plant Swap and Pot Luck part II

Kelly,
I'm so very sorry to hear about your brother.I hope you and your family get through this and come out with good news in the end.If you think your up to it and wouldn't mind emailing me your address,I will be more then happy to send you a Fruit Scented Sage.Maybe it will give you some enjoyment and help keep your mind off of things for awhile. Please don't worry about sending anything in return.I'll catch up with you later in the year.Be Well.
Steph,
Sorry about that.I meant to say Golden Prayers instead of Golden Hands.
Hostalavesta,
I haven't gotten your email yet.I have had so much trouble with my new carrier.I wish I had my old mail box.Anyway,I am interested in your Warwick Curtsey and Hadspen Huron Hosta.
Cathy((Mao))
I just figured out who you are.LOL
I'm so lame brained sometimes I just don't know which is what.:)I can't remember what we emailed about right off,But I'm sure we can work something out.I'll catch up with you at the swap.I will have a Praying Hands for you.
See You All Soon!!!!

RE: Central Ohio Plant Swap and Pot Luck part II

Hi Everybody,

I'm so ready for tomorrow to get here already. I can't wait to meet all the wonderful people who have enabled my gardening addiction. LOL!!! I have my little group of plants ready to go, and will be making the pumpkin dip for the buffet table later tonight. See you all tomorrow!!!

 o
RE: Central Ohio Plant Swap and Pot Luck part II

Hostalavista, I have Oenothera glazioviana Tina James. It's a biennial that pops open at dusk, if you want it just let me know and I'll set one aside for you.

Mom is also bringing a load of tomatoes, so there shouldn't be any problem finding them at the swap! See you all tomorrow!

Jeanne

 o
RE: Central Ohio Plant Swap and Pot Luck part II

Mimi I think... that you were going to dig up some toad lilies for me???
Xaroleht - I think It was jerusulom artichokes? I know you are getting hens and chicks.

Kelly, send me your addy and I'll mail you your plants. They are all ones that ship well. Nothing needed in return. Family first. My good thoughts and prayers with you and yours. I'll light some inscense for you and your family as well.

Gads I think I am going nuts final count this year is 107 plants and various pots/pans/glassware/stuff for creative gardeners. Also I have two large hydroponic trays I am bringing - they are black and may need new spouts but they still hold water and do great. Hope they find a good home.

LESS THEN 24 HOURS!!! AHHHHHHHH!!

People count - me, mum and my coworker Kim could not kidnapp my nephew as the day would be too long for a 3year old and his daddy is taking him to cosi. Plant swaps do not beat out cosi with daddy. Maybe next year. LOL

Granny - look into Bionic gloves I got some for mum and she swears by them. The Arthritic foundation also endorses them for gardeners who need help keeping the pain away. You can ask mum tommorow to see if you might like them. They run about 40.00$ but last a long time.

gots to get back to work.:(

 o
RE: Central Ohio Plant Swap and Pot Luck part II

Mouse, you sure that wasn't me who was getting you a toad lily? Or was that in addition to our swap of toad lilies?
Steph

 o
RE: Central Ohio Plant Swap and Pot Luck part II

any one who is still reading this, i just remembered something i'm looking for plant wise:

yellow violets (but not johnny-jump-ups)
trilliums

if your coming to the swap and have them and will share i'd be thrilled to get either.

Thanks
diggerb

 o
RE: Central Ohio Plant Swap and Pot Luck part II

I haven't been able to post lately, but I'm still planning to come tomorrow. I'm not done deciding exactly what I'll be bringing--some plants and some food, that much is sure. I do have some asters and some sedum in pots, and the mystery tomatoes I mentioned earlier.

kin2mice: Of course you can have some of the mystery tomatoes. Some of them I'm pretty sure are Amish Paste. Others, who knows. And if you still have peppers and/or eggplants, I'd probably be interested in some of those. If they're already spoken for, no problem. I seem to have already accumulated a lot of things to plant this year.

Can't wait!
Dawn

 o
RE: Central Ohio Plant Swap and Pot Luck part II

Hey Mouse,
Thanks for the heads up on the Bionic Gloves.
But I'd FREAK!!!if I had to pay 40.00 bucks for a pair of gloves no matter how good they were.I lose more gloves then anyone I know.I'm constantly trying to find a mate. Most times I have 2 different gloves on.But Thank You.That was very sweet of you to take time to fill me in.
Maybe I'll hint around for them come time for a Birthday or something.:)
Getting ready to pack up!!!
Granny57x

 o
RE: Central Ohio Plant Swap and Pot Luck part II

Hey Jeanne, I'll take that Tina James, thanks, I'll be looking for you.
Granny your welcome to the Hostas, I thought the Elfin, Pandora and Prayers sounded good to me.
Mouse, tell your Mom to bring the gloves, I'd like to at least look at them.
I might bring Tuna Noodle, I know that's not a spectacular food but it will be warm and we may need warm.
Darn, my Mom won't get to come she has a bad cold and a bum knee, so we decided her health is more important so I'm still bring her seeds and plants a total of 110!!
She gave me a list to look for her some plants and seeds.
I remember Castor Beans were one of the seeds but darn if I can remember the rest.
Goody, lots of tomatoes, I know Mom needs these too!
See you all tomorrow, I can't wait.
I even have my plants in the van, but have to load up Mom's, Daughters and friends. Yee Hah

 o
RE: Central Ohio Plant Swap and Pot Luck part II

Granny, if you're still reading, I've got the Golden Prayers potted up and ready to go for you.
Just finished the pasta salad.
Pray for nice weather!
Steph

 o
RE: Central Ohio Plant Swap and Pot Luck part II

The van is loaded with all the plant swap goodies ( paper products, table cloth, table etc and. . . PLANTS) The crockpot is cooking beanies and beef weinies. I just need to put the coffee in the van in the morning and we are ready to roll.

Mimi got a new wagon! Me too - it's actually for my grandson when he gets a bit older.

Can't wait to see all of you again. Fine tradition!

Another success thanks to our charming hostesses. I was a little sore from the Race for the Cure, but I managed to give away 30 plants, a book on gardening, gingko saplings and plenty of seed packs.

I took home NOTHING! I couldn't be happier!

Great to see you all. I had the tortellini/broccoli/bacon salad with the sweet dressing. For the recipe (it was totally gone, so I assumed it was well liked) go to:

allrecipes.com and type in "broccoli and tortellini salad."

I would love to know more about that bean dip with the chips!

Working now on spring and summer sowing and tending to my winter sown babies that will go to the fall swap.

 o
RE: Central Ohio Plant Swap and Pot Luck part II

Great swap- as usual. Got a ton of [planting to do now.
Michelle and James, if, by chance you read this before heading home, Mike has some yellow irises for you. If not, we'll get them to you next time. If you do, email me at sunion98@yahoo.com
Thanks again Mimi and Beverly!

Hi, It was cold but, no RAIN..Got alot of good plants. The group keep growing in size (columbus monthly really helped). Hope to see everyone at the fall swap!!..

I here Cory's in chillocothe, ohio is really good for hosta's. Had lots of fun Beverly & Mini. Thanks again

 o
RE: Central Ohio Plant Swap and Pot Luck part II

Many thanks to all the people that helped make the swap successful. It's gotten so big that Beverly and I could not do it with out all of the gracious folks who pitch in and get things done. I can't begin to name all of you. Let's face it, gardener's are pretty cool people!

Thanks too to all you folks who contributed door prizes. That always makes for a special part of our swap. Everyone's food was delicious! I must have gained five pounds today!

My personal thanks to all of you who were so kind to give hostess gifts. I'm touched at your thoughtfulness.

It was great to see all of our old friends again and to meet some new ones.

I'll post what pics Lee took when I get a chance. He's out in the veggie garden, as I type, planting his tomatoes and inventing a new way to support them.

I'm heard lots of great feedback today. It seemed to me that everyone was gracious and polite. I hope you all had the same experience.

Well, I'd better go write down the names of the cool plants I got so that I can enter them in my data base and print labels so I'll be ready to plant on Monday!

Thanks again to everyone for another great swap!

RE: Central Ohio Plant Swap and Pot Luck part II

Hi folks....wow - what a wonderful day!! And - we dodged the rain that looked like it might come our way. YAY!!

I want to thank all you folks for coming today and making this a very special day. So many things to mention. It was wonderful to see so many long time swap friends. What a pleasure to have these wonderful friendships that have formed over the years. It's been very special watching family's grow and change over the last 6-7 years. New babies, spouses, children growing up, friends and more. And, so many new folks this year. That was great too. Theresa's terrific article in Columbus monthly brought many new swappers.

I am very excited to have new 'goodies' for my gardens. I am always glad to welcome new plants and try out something different.

As always the food was so tasty!! I absolutely can attest to the fact that gardener's are great cooks too. I am glad we tracked down who made that fudgey dessert thing. Michelle is on the case to get the recipe and post it. Bakemom, I love your new salad. (however, the apple salad you make is still my fav.)

Thanks to all the folks that brought door prizes. What a treat for so many people to get a prize. It's fun for the kids to pick the names out of the bag.

It was suggested that next year we get a megaphone or kareoke machine for communicating with everyone. Hey...that's a great idea! I'll look into ..Ebay, maybe.

Mimi and I want to thank all you folks that were so helpful - setting up, getting things out, cleaning up - so many things. & so many folks helping. We appreciate it so much.

Now for the ta-da moment....the count!!!! We had some 160 people at the swap. The most ever. The plant count, according to the sign in book, was 2688 plants. WOWSER!! I think everyone must have gone home with lots of new goodies for their gardens.

We appreciate you all - your wonderful generosity of spirit and sharing. Such a nice day.

Thanks again to all for helping us have a special day of sharing plants, food, and friendship.

Good gardening to you all.........Beverly

Beverly and Mimi,

Thanks for a wonderful swap! It was wonderful to see every one! The food was great! I brought home far less than I took and that was the point for me.

Happy Planting Everyone!

RE: Central Ohio Plant Swap and Pot Luck part II

what a great swap! Mimi and Beverly, you guys did a great job! I picked up a lot of great plants and now have a lot of work to do to get them all planted.

the food was great and so were the people!

I took a lot of photos, sorry in advance for any butt shots. I was taking a lot of general photos of the swap. some are a little blurry, but I decided to just put them all in the album.

Thanks again everyone for a fabulous swap! Chris, Izzy & I had such a good time. We brought home some nice new treasures for our garden, including some hollyhock, hosta, a daylily, forget me nots and snow drop anemone. I love looking outside and seeing past swap plants thriving in the garden. I did get the hollyhocks and daylily planted yesterday and hope to get more done today.

I'm still recovering from all of the dessert I ate. Who made that dish with the cheese cake iced with chocolate and nuts? It was hard to get out of the pan but sooooo worth the effort! ;)

RE: Central Ohio Plant Swap and Pot Luck part II

I didn't get anywhere near as many pictures as strmywthr3, I only took ten (camera phone.. LOL!!!) but here they are in case anyone wants them.... Thanks everyone, I had a great time at my first plant swap.

RE: Central Ohio Plant Swap and Pot Luck part II

Deanna made the fudgy dessert with the chocolate and nuts. I told her I would give her a couple of days to post the recipe and email her if she didn't get around to it. She called it "bun dessert" like the bun candybars.
We had a lot of fun. I think I took more time this year just to talk to people than focus on plants. I hadn't even really looked at what was there before the swap. Still came home with some nice goodies. Brought home less plants than we took which is ok with me. I think Noah had 1/3 of what we brought home to plant in his section.
Thanks to Bev and Mimi for all their hard work. Can't wait to see everyone again in the fall. Is anyone set to plan that one?
Peace

 o
RE: Central Ohio Plant Swap and Pot Luck part II

Thanks Beverly and Mimi for all your hard work putting on the Plant Swap. It was great fun again to see old friends and meet new people. The food was great and all the plants. The weather could have been better, but maybe next year we will pull a better day.
Thanks everyone for the plants we received.
Happy Gardening this summer. May we all have Beautiful Gardens this summer. Ron & Betty

RE: Central Ohio Plant Swap and Pot Luck part II

Hi Beverly,Mimi,
Just now am able to get on line.
The swap is a great success because of all the wonderful people who go all out to make it the high point of our day,And much of that effort is because of the two of you Beverly and Mimi.I know you have help and it makes it nice for all involved. But lets face it.You make it work.Thank You for YOU!!I look forward to seeing your smiling faces and the funny stories you have to tell. You always have a nice way of welcoming everyone and making them all feel right at home,Like we've always belonged.
I truly enjoy all the Smiles and the Hugs and look forward to them as much as the Goodies and the Full Belly I go home with.It truly is a treat for me.
So with that being said;
Thank You Both!!! From my Heart and the Heart of my Flowering Beds.
Job Well Done.
Great seeing everyone!!

Hi,
Bev & Mimi you where so busy with the newbies, I didn't get to talk to either of you much. Thanks again.

I think the wind, made it harder to hear maybe a meg-a-phone would do the trick.

Bev how much weight have you lost? What diet are you using? I need to do the same. You looked great.

RE: Central Ohio Plant Swap and Pot Luck part II

Bev and Mimi,
Thanks so much for all the work you do in getting the swap
going each year.

i was so glad i came again this year, since my plants i got
are all a treat to have. I haven't done a thing with them yet, but Thursday is my day off and thats what i'm planning to work on.

please get on Deanna's case about that bun bar dessert-- those were nummy nummy good. I'm sure they are horrifyingly unhealthy for us-- best eating standing near the kitchen sink by the light of the refrigerator to avoid calories.

again thanks
diggerb

 o
RE: Central Ohio Plant Swap and Pot Luck part II

Ok Ok I emailed Deanna this morning and will post the recipe as soon as I get it from her. James and the kids got a couple of things in last night. Hopefully will get the rest in,if not before, on Memorial Day. Have a good one.
Peace

RE: Central Ohio Plant Swap and Pot Luck part II

Hi all you Good Gardeners!
I was so glad to see everyone! Talked to a couple of different people this time, I don't even know who they were. It's always nice to meet new people.
And of course all the good ole' friends. Love seeing all of you, it's like having a reunion with new relatives joining us each year.
I love all the plants I got, especially the trades that is so much fun. The food is great, love the variety.
I'll be looking for that dessert recipe, Xaro! Thanks for posting it. I loved the HoHo Cake, I think that's what you call it, went back for a small second.
Most of my Tuna Noodle was ate, it was a Ho Hum food but it was Hot, something we needed that day! Dang Wind.
Only have a few things put in the ground, potted up my Ginko trees, wanna give them a boost before putting them in the ground. Planted my sedums (special trade), Cathy don't have her Daylilys in the ground yet. Maybe today I will get a few more things in.
Other special trades were Impatiens, 2 people with Evening Primrose, even lost one of the trades but was spotted by Jeanne, Thank You twice!, got lavender, lots of other special trades, thank you all.
Got a Praying Hands Hosta in special trade, it's so unusual. My hostas that I've had for years are finally recouperating (spell?) after we lost our Popular trees about 3 or 4 years ago. Abiqua Drinking Gourd has the deepest cups I've ever seen.

Oh goodie..we'll get the recipe. Thanks, Michelle.

Thanks Diane - yes, I have lost alot of weight. I am doing it by counting calories, writing down everything I eat, planning ahead, and daily meditation. Also, these websites have been very helpful: Sparkpeople and 3Fatchicks (great forums, tools and information)

Glad folks have had a good time. Me too!

Hi, all! I emailed Deanna again this morning. Haven't heard back from her yet but will keep trying. For those who want it here is the recipe for the Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough Dip...
3/4 cup powdered sugar, 8 oz cream cheese, 1/2 cup brown sugar, 1 tsp. vanilla, 3/4 cup small chocolate chips. Cream the sugars and cream cheese together. Add vanilla and mix. Fold in the chocolate chips. I serve with vanilla wafers or graham cracker sticks. For fun I get Scooby snacks. Have a great Memorial Day. Peace.

Michelle,
Thanks for posting your recipe for theChocolate Chip Cookie Dough Dip.It sounds DELISH!!!I didn't get to sample any because we got there late,But I did get to sample lots of other good stuff.
As to you trying numerous times to get the recipe from Deanna,If I were you I'd forget about it.Sounds like she doesn't want to give it up.Maybe it's her specialty and doesn't want to share it.No recipe is worth begging for.LOL
Not meant to offend anyone.
Hope you got all your plants in and the kids are well.
I will look forward to seeing you at the fall swap.

RE: bun bars

OK so i went online and googled bun bar recipes
my, my, my but there are a lot of them-- and no wonder they were so good-- they are pure sugar, fat and chocolate:

1.spray with pam and line a 9x13 pan with wax paper(you might want to give the wax paper a shot of pam too)

2. 12 oz chocolate chips
12 oz butterscotch chips
18 oz peanutbutter

1 cup butter
2/3rd cup milk
3.2 oz package vanilla pudding mix (not instant)
1 tsp vanilla extract
(2 tsp maple flavoring-optional)
2 lbs powdered suagr

12 oz - 1 lb peanuts-- whatever type you like

3. melt 1/2 of the chocolate and butterscotch chips with 1/2 of the peanut butter (lets just say melt 1 cup of each)
mix well. spread this into the prepared 9x13 pan. place in freezer to chill.

4. melt butter, stir in milk and vanilla pudding mix. mix well. bring to a boil. boil 1 minute. stir in flavorings.
stir in powdered sugar. mix well. spread this over the chocolate layer. Chill

5. melt the rest of the chocolate and butterscotch chips and peanut butter. stir in the peanuts. spread as the top layer. chill. cut into small bites (i'm thinkin' something more than 12 or 18 bars-- perhaps as many as 48 or 60 to one pan)

5. refrigerate or freeze to store
