Hi! I'm new to this forum. I noticed a distinct lack of anyone from N.Y.. I live in the southern tier. Would love to chat with local gardeners, swap plants, that kind of stuff.

Hi, I'm from CT and live about an hour and a half outside of the City. You're right. The GW doesn't have too many folks from the Northeast. Where exactly are you in NY?

Hi! Just got to this forum. Didn't know they had one like this particular one. I am from the southern tier about 40 miles from Binghamton, to the east. I have had a perennial flower garden for about 3 years. I enjoy it, even though I do not know everything about all of them yet. I will be retiring soon, so then I will have more time to devote to it in the spring, summer and fall. These forums are so interesting! I come to them often. Betty

Everybody go to the Garden Party Forum!! That's where you meet more people.. like myself, from Long Island. Hey Betty, are you anywhere near Unadilla? (Mother and other relatives live there) As a child, my family spent August there. I have always loved that part of the state.

There's quite a few people from NY here - you just have to look everywhere. I'm from the Syracuse area. I know there's a guy from Painted Post & a guy from near Canton floating around here somewhere; and there used to be two women from NYC, and a woman from near Buffalo ... Check Northern Gardening, too ...

Thanks to all who responded. My computer has been sick for awhile, what a drag!! Then, you are really going to think this is silly, but I couldn't find this site, or really wasn't sure where I posted this note. These lapses are occuring more frequently, what do you think that means? Too much sun and dry weather!!! This has really been a blessing. They actually promised rain today.
Fall is coming. Does anyone know of any plant swaps coming up around this area? I'm always taking my divisions to work, but there are no gardeners there, and never really see much in return.
Well, gotta go to work. Have a great day!

We're in Oceanside. Our back yard juts up against a tidal marsh. We grow mostly perrennials, planted a few ornamental trees and shrubs, and have four raised beds for vegetables. Our front lawn is now compost. We put in a weeping cherry, a clumping, white birch, a Stewartia and asst. perrennials. Next year, instead of another lousy vacation we're planning an irrigation system. (Any thoughts from anyone would be appreciated) No miracle grow here. We use lot's of doodee and fish emulsion and kelp. We also get alot of fertilizer help from our duck friends. They also eat alot of bugs.
E back to say hello- if you live nearby we'd love to show our garden to you. Dan and Denise

Nice to see other Long Islanders here. Think we might be able to organize a plant swap? This would be a good time of year to pot up some plants.

    Hi,

We have a new site up, Metro NY Home & garden.

Also, in the end of January, I think the 26th, there's the Plant-O-Rama, an anuual event held at the Brooklyn Botanic Garden. I was there last year and it was pretty neat, some very good lectures, some vendors, etc. I think we might have a table there this year hawking the NY site. ;-)

    Hi Everyone,

I just found this site and wondered why not much activity plant swap-wise this year?

I think it would be a great idea. I live in Bellerose, Queens at the border of Long Island. Love to hear from other New Yorkers who might like to get together in a plant swap.

I'm about 70 miles north of NYC in the catskill region. Perennials are my obsession, my compulsion, and my passion.
It would be wonderful to plan a swap for this fall. Anyone local?

    Hello,
I'm new to Garden Web and the forums. I'm in Long Island City, Queens. OGR's are my main interest although I love perennials and now herbs and heirlooms are starting to become an addiction.

Glad to see folks are still responding to this. I'm in the process of moving from LI to NW Catskills. 40 miles S of Binghamton along the Delaware river.

Chloe is probably not still checking this thread, but I gotta ask, what's so funny about Brooklyn? A tree grows here! (Well, actually more than one tree, but it's the Ailanthus everyone's thinking about.) I wish we could have a plant swap hereabouts sometime. I'd invite you all to my stoop...oh, now I see the problem.

This site is kind of dormant. Guess everyone is busy with gardening chores. I'm from Merrick. I grow tons of annuals and perennials. I spend way too much. I am a nursery junky. Gotta have my weekly visits and always come home with things I don't have space for. That's why I dug a need bed last week when my husband wasn't looking.

I'm a former New Yorker, Long Island & Queens to be exact, now living in Middle Tennessee. We get back to New York about once a year to visit. I have my first vegetable garden since leaving Long Island ten years ago and can't believe how I went ten years without a garden. Long Island was a great place to garden.

Hi there, I am from Lyndonville NY near Lake Ontario. A real agriculture area. I retired from GM last year and have large yard and garden areas. Rapidly becomming work instead fun. I really enjoy this net thing and have been able to relate to many of the note writers in these forums. This medium really deserves our support where ever we can. Happy gardening to you all and happy Thanksgiving to you all. Daveben@tigdata.net

I want to form a NYC exchange forum simply because I am not confident that I will be able to properly pack up plants for mailing. A Brooklyn exchange forum would even be better. Anyone know how this can be set up on this web site?

The north Jersey swap meet will take place on Sept 7, Sunday, which is tomorrow and begins at 10:30 at the flagpole at the Green. You will have to look up to see the flagpole. In case you miss it, it is directly across from the statue fountain. It is a very small "parkette" so you will have no trouble finding us. I will make a small sign saying GardenWeb. So we can recognize each other, wear a name tag or pin a flower to your collar. There are a number of benches, which we will use to set up our trades. I stopped by the Green today to ensure everything is easy to find. I found a large group of hostas with loads of ripe hosta seeds. Shhhhhh, don't tell anyone.

I will be there at 10:30 to greet everyone. We will probably have lunch at noon. We will probably break up after lunch but everyone is welcome to stay and socialize.

Feel free to bring plants, seeds, garden sundries, garden books and garden arts and crafts. All friends of GW folks are welcome to come and enjoy the day. The Green is a very pleasant little park.

    Directions:

The Green is located at the juncture of old route 24 (which is sometimes called route 124) and Route 202. It is a little park across from Centure 21 department store and near the Headquarters complex. It is in Morristown.

We have 13 people who said they are coming. Come and join us, bring a small dish for a picnic and plenty of plants to trade. See you all tomorrow.

Hi there, I am usually over in the junk yard side of the gardenweb. I came upon this through my newsletter. I am from Massena NY. There doesn't seem to be anyone else from Massena here. We live so high up in the state that we get nosebleeds! LOL About 5 miles from Cornwall Ontario, Canada. I would really like to see more people from my neck of the woods..and I mean WOODS! It is ok though..we love it here and all the open countrysides and rivers. Really a beautiful place to live. Anyone else from here? ..........Liz
