Central Ohio Plantswap/Potluck- Sat. May 19, 2007

Posted by storygardener 5/6 central oh (My Page) on
Sat, Dec 30, 06 at 8:38

Hello fellow gardeners!
It's that time again! My name is Beverly - (aka Storygardener) My good friend and gardening buddy, Mimi, (aka Princess Mimi)and I have again reserved a covered shelter at a park in Hilliard, Oh (northwest suburb of Columbus, Ohio) for a plant swap and pot luck on Saturday, May 19, 2007.

MARK YOUR CALENDAR & TELL YOUR FRIENDS

Here is the basic information:

Date: Saturday, May 19, 2007
Time: 10:00 am
Place: Shelter #5, Hilliard Municipal Park, Hilliard, Ohio. The park is on Veterans Memorial Dr.

TRADING MATERIALS: plants, well rooted cuttings potted up, bulbs, shrubs, happy seedlings, garden ornaments,& bundled garden magazines, extra gardening implements, etc.

(PLEASE MARK ALL PLANT MATERIALS WITH THE PLANT NAME AND CARE (shade, sun, etc) REQUIRED!!! Also, mark any plants as invaisive or poisonous, if known)

POT LUCK: Please bring a dish to pass with serving untensil & your own beverage We will provide plates, plastic silverware, napkins & cup. It's a good idea to mark your serving spoons etc. with your name. I can tell you...gardeners are WONDERFUL cooks!!

DOOR PRIZES: If anyone wants to donate something for a door prize, please feel free. Over the years we have had many really neat prizes!! Lots of fun.

This should be a wonderful chance to share your passion for gardening, meet other avid and learning gardeners, have a festive and delicious meal, acquire some new plants & share your extra's. Please come with a happy and sharing heart. Bring pictures of your gardens, flowers, etc. - if you like!

This is the plan for the day:

10:00 -12:00 - people arrive, sign-in with your name and number of plants, get name tag, put plants in viewing/swap area, put dish to pass away, visit with other gardeners & start viewing plants.
Noon - have lunch
After lunch - door prize(s) awarded
1:00 - swap begins
After swap - more visiting, pack up & goodbyes.

This plant swap is free...but, if anyone wants to donate a dollar that day to help defray the cost of the shelter (now $50, paper products, etc) - we won't argue with you!

We've been to many swaps we really like this swapping style - a modified ROUND ROBIN.
Round One - pick one plant
Next Round - pick one plant
Next Round - pick two plants
Next Round - pick three plants
And so on, and so on....
This way everyone gets a chance to get some of the plants they really have on eye on. This works well and people have been very pleased in the past. Everyone should be able to take home as many plants as they bring.

Some tips for the day would include bringing a folding chair (sometimes needed), a box or container labeled with your name to put your new plants in after swapping & bring and mark your serving utensils for your dish to pass. If you have room in the car...bring an extra table, just in case.

Hilliard Municipal Park can be found by getting into Columbus, then go to the outerbelt, I-270 & go west, and getting off at Cemetery Road Exit. Go west again (towards Hilliard) on Cemetary Rd. Stay on Cemetery Road about 2 miles until right past Main Street (a traffic light). At this point you still go straight because Cemetery Road joins with Scioto Darby Road. Go about .4 mile down road until you get to Veterans Memorial Drive which is on the left.

Veterans Memorial Drive/Hilliard Municipal Park is off of Scioto Darby road on the left side of the road - across from Hilliard Heritage Middle School. (NOT hilliard Memorial Middle school - that, you'll see first.) Another landmark is that Veterans Memorial Dr. is where you see the Urgent Care & Sunshine Academy. Shelter #5 is only about 1/10 mile from the park entrance. You stay directly on the park's main road and go .1 mile and turn right (just past all the flag poles). You'll turn right again quickly into a parking lot directly in front of shelter #5. The shelter just left of the children's playyard.

We hope you can make it.

PLEASE EMAIL with RSVP so we can get a head count. (This helps us know how many plates, cups, etc. to bring)

This should be a FUN, informal day to share our love of gardening! We are contacting some of our gardening friends & alerting the Gardeweb.com people & the local garden club. Hopefully we'll have a good crowd. You should bring a gardening friend, too!

Please email with any questions.

HOPE YOU CAN MAKE IT TO THE SWAP!

Good gardening...

...Beverly & Mimi

And so it begins.....

Always a great time, and I'm looking forward to it! I have no idea what plants I'll bring, but I'll probably have a bunch of non-plant material. And I hope to bring my mother and sister back up as well!

Let the count down begin!

RE: Central Ohio Plantswap/Potluck- Sat. May 19, 2007

Hi Mimi, Betty, Ron & Alison...yes, the coundown begins. It's fun to think about the swap, new plants, seeing long time friends, a yummy lunch, connecting with new folks & a fun day.

I'll be doing some Winter Sowing and I can see lots of things in the yard that need dividing and many volunteers.

Think spring (although it's pretty spring like outside recently!)

Hello,
Hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas. I saw some little bulb 1 1/2" out of the ground today. Can't wait.
Sorry to hear the shelter went up to 50.00 for the day.
It has been so warm now!! But it is to be cold in the spring.

RE: Central Ohio Plantswap/Potluck- Sat. May 19, 2007

Hi Everybody!!!
How cool is it to be talking plants to swap already??
I don't know about any of you,But I have Primrose blooming and I know it's Way TOOO early for them to bloom. But it sure is mighty pretty to look at this time of the year.I also have some crocus coming up.I hope they don't get hit later on in the season with a killing frost or freeze.
I can't believe Christmas and a New Year has come and gone.
And it's 2007.That's unreal. But that also means it's closer to the time for the swap.
Hope your all well and in good spirits.I know this thread puts me in a wonderful spirit,Reading all the posts.
Look forward to seeing you all real soon.

I'm planning to do some winter sowing for the swap. Haven't started yet, but should start soon when things calm down around here.

Does anyone need seeds? Email me. I have a ton of donations for the Newbie Seed Project that have just arrived and more to arrive. There's no reason anyone should be bored this winter!

 o
RE: Central Ohio Plantswap/Potluck- Sat. May 19, 2007

Hi Bakemom, Granny 57, Michigoose, Diane, Betty, Mimi, Alison and all.

Wowser...we already have 15 folks interested in coming to the swap.

It will be lots of fun.

Only 4 monthes away and it makes me excited to think about it.

Good gardening.......Beverly

 o
RE: Central Ohio Plantswap/Potluck- Sat. May 19, 2007

Yea! Count me in.

Great to think about the swap on a cold, clear winter's day. (altho' my bulbs are up and my dayliles too - same as everyone else's I'm sure.)

Thanks for organizing this again! Don't know what plants I'll have but I'll bring a good door prize that I've been setting aside for the swap.

 o
RE: Central Ohio Plantswap/Potluck- Sat. May 19, 2007

Hi Abbiejan! I am so glad that you'll be coming too! Neat that you already have a door prize set aside. What fun.

Thing spring......Beverly

Hi Storygardener,
Good to see everyone posting again.I was out feeding my cats yesterday and what a surprise!!The half barrels I planted Tulips in,In November are up already about 4 inches. This crazy weather is doing a number on the bulbs this year.I guess we just have to let them endure whatever comes their way and hope for the best.I can't wait for spring to get here,Although it hasn't really felt much like winter till just a few days ago.It was kinda nice seeing the snow.I wish I could so snowboarding in it.(Kidding).
Look forward to reading everyone's posts and keeping in touch with everyone.

RE: Central Ohio Plantswap/Potluck- Sat. May 19, 2007

Hi!
We just won the garden award this morning. Here where we are staying they have plants in the Gatehouse. Well the manager on Saturday asked us what is wrong with her plants. We said, we would check it out. Well the person that was suppose to water forgot to do that. They also were never given anything but water - no food. This morning after watering and feeding them over the weekend, they were full of beautiful blooms and looked great. They declared us winners and we now take care of the plants in the Gateroom.
We also have a dozen Sweet Potato vines growing in our window from cuttings.
Not sure what is happening back home but the neighbor said that the daylilies look like they are coming up. Not much snow back home. Today we have a plus 80 degree day and full sun. It is a shame we can't be working in our yard back home with all this sun and warm weather.
Can't wait to see everyone in May.
Abbiejan - I hope your Astilbe made it through the winter because I owe you. Betty

 o
RE: Central Ohio Plantswap/Potluck- Sat. May 19, 2007

Hi Granny...my daffodils are poking up, too. They are confused with this mild winter!

Hi Betty...congrats on the award. If any folks can save ailing plants, it would be you and Ron! I was recently in Michigan...they finally have a bit of cold and snow. But, I am not suprised your daylillie are getting new growth. Sounds like you and Ron are enjoying Florida.

Before we know it....it will be springtime!

 o
RE: Central Ohio Plantswap/Potluck- Sat. May 19, 2007

I'm potting up a bunch of cuttings I took this fall, when I was transplanting/tossing/cutting back house plants. Some hens-n-chicks, dancing fairies, and a neat pink double kalanchoe that looks like little roses. Hopefully they'll be big and bushy by swap time, and will plump the 'houseplants' category.

I still haven't decided what I'm winter-sowing this year; better get cracking if I want extras for the swap!

 o
RE: Central Ohio Plantswap/Potluck- Sat. May 19, 2007

So great to see all the enthusiasm on this list -- esp. after a less than stellar day in office-land. Hey - I know this is off-topic but does anyone have an opinion on Spring Hill nurseries? I'm thinking of ordering something from them online but wonder about plant quality...

Finally have some snow but I can still see the tops of some of my daylilies. (Put in a new DL bed in August - 40 plants - hope the wacky weather doesn't stunt them!)

 o
RE: Central Ohio Plantswap/Potluck- Sat. May 19, 2007

WOW!!!Hagey!!
That's a wonderful gift to receive this time of the year.I'd be patting you on the back if I was there to do so.I guess I'll owe you some pats when I see you next. How thrilling!!!
What do you receive for the honor?A Blue Ribbon or your name in a local paper or a trophy of some sort?Just having someone tell me I was the best at what I was doing would be a Grinner for me!!!I'd have the biggest smile on my face.I think it'd crack.((Grins))What is the Gateroom?Sounds wonderful whatever it is.Anyway,Congratulations !!!
Storygardener,
I thought besides crocus,The Daffs would come up way before the Tulips.I don't recall my Tulips ever coming up this soon.I planted 2 half barrels and only one half barrel has them coming up.The other barrel is in a more shadier spot.I don't know if that makes a difference or not,All I know is,I'll be having Tulips blooming in Feb if this keeps up.

 o
RE: Central Ohio Plantswap/Potluck- Sat. May 19, 2007

I'll be there at the swap. We're looking forward to it again. I think I've convinced a few people to join me as well- at least 2 now.
I know you all have done this in May before, but I don't know what will be out of the ground by then? Are hostas out by then?
Can't wait to find out!

 o
RE: Central Ohio Plantswap/Potluck- Sat. May 19, 2007

Steph98 - Your hostas should be out as we bring hostas and are usually a good size to cart. We also pot up a lot of hostas for my garden club sale and it is easier to pot when they are unfurling and we grew them in the pots for a few weeks before the sale. If you are potting the large ones it is easier to pot when they are unfurling as they do not break or tear as you handle them.
I am not sure we have met but hope to see you there. We too are looking forward to the swap. Betty

RE: Central Ohio Plantswap/Potluck- Sat. May 19, 2007

Hi everybody!

Wonderful to see the swap is offical! It's wonderful to hear from all our swap buddies! With this snow I'm doing a lot of garden dreaming myself. I'll be bringing daylilies this year. I may even bring a few hosta. I'll probably bring a lot because I need to give room in the back yard for my new boxer, Molly. She's 8 months old now and all feet.

I'm about to put my seed orders in. Anybody want to share their favorite seed sources? (If we are allowed to do that here.)

Have a wonderful day!

I just stopped in to see if this was up yet. I loved coming to the fall swap, my first. My niece Kathy and I had a ball. Maybe this year I can talk my sisters into coming with us. It was so enjoyable to meet so many of you and put faces to names. I forgot my door prize last year but it is ready to go. Now all I have to do is figure out what plants I am bringing. Looking forward to see all of you there. Twila

RE: Central Ohio Plantswap/Potluck- Sat. May 19, 2007

I'll be there... I'll be bringing my daughter, who just bought a new house. I told her she has to come over and help me dig up hostas....(they seemed to go over quite well last year)..

RE: Central Ohio Plantswap/Potluck- Sat. May 19, 2007

After all the snow we've had in the last couple of weeks, it's so much fun to think about the swap.

Trish...I am so glad you'll be coming again this year! Hope you bring Paul and Dick, too! I bet Molly is SO big since I've seen her last. She was a new puppy then.

Hey Granny!!!! Glad your computer is fixed!

Hi Twyla (keets)...I am glad you and Kathy are returning to the swap again. Great! Of course, your sisters are so welcome to come also!! The more the merrier, as they say.

Hi Lynne...it would be nice if your daughter could attend too. The swap is a perfect place to get plants for a new house! Yes, everyone loves hostas!

Think spring....Beverly

RE: Central Ohio Plantswap/Potluck- Sat. May 19, 2007

Hi,all! Sorry we have been silent. It has been a hectic year so far. If I can get two birthdays(Naomi 2/28, Noah 3/15)and a bridal shower, plus a bunch of other stuff, out of the way I'll be ok. We should be there along with my Mom again.
James and I did seed inventory during the snow storms. Anyone looking for anything in particular. I think we have over 60 varieties of tomatoes alone. Just let us know. Will be trying to get on garden web more.
Been thinking about food too...any requests anyone? I have fun coming up with new things.
Better get Noah off to school, maybe we'll actually have two full weeks in a row. We only had 4 partial weeks. That's Ohio for you.

 o
RE: Central Ohio Plantswap/Potluck- Sat. May 19, 2007

Hi Everyone!

I have been busy nursing my family lately. Nothing serious but one thing after another and then they share! I can't wait until SPRING!!!! I've also been busy digging out from the snow. (Yes, still!) Our mail carrier informed me that we have the dubious honor of having the single largest snow pile in front of our mail box in all of Hilliard!!!! Where's my prize!?!?! The joys of living on the end of the court.

I have not yet begun to dream about what I'll be bringing to the swap. I'd better be getting my head into the garden!

Beverly is busy right now. She has just had her first Grandbaby!!! All is well and he's a cutie!!!!

Glad to hear from all of you!

RE: Central Ohio Plantswap/Potluck- Sat. May 19, 2007

Ok, enough of this love fest. What about the FOOD?

I'm trying to think of something a little more elaborate than what I provided in the past. I'm thinking of a crockpot perhaps of something yummy or just a great traditional potluck classic. I'm thinking hot dish b/c that was one area that might need some pizzaz.

I was thinking about wraps, but because I live so close, perhaps I should try for something heated and leave the cold cuts to others.

Anyone have any ideas? What are YOU bringing?

 o
RE: Central Ohio Plantswap/Potluck- Sat. May 19, 2007

God Bless You Hostalavista!!!!
It's really so wonderful to see you back on the Garden Web,And talking about coming to the swap with your daughter Cathy and bringing a good friend.I was hoping your mother would be coming so everyone could meet her especially me.I can't wait to see what beautiful plants you bring. I'll be standing in line!!
Look forward to seeing you!

Food

Hi Bakemom,
Good to know someone else is thinking about food besides me.
I'm thinking about bringing a dip. It's a new recipe and I haven't tried it out yet. It's called BLT dip. I'm told by the person who makes it that everyone just loves it and can't get enough of it.We'll see.I may try it out on my family first before bringing it to the swap.Or I may bring a Ruben Dip.I've had it before and it's Delish!!If you like Rubens which I happen to love.
Does either one sound good to any one else?

RE: Central Ohio Plantswap/Potluck- Sat. May 19, 2007

Hi! Mimi, I just got around to checking out the site and it is wonderful!!!! I can't wait to delve in to it a little more.
Anyway, head count for me will be at least me and prob. two to three other people. (I wont know fer sure until a week ahead) but three at the most two at the least not inculding moi.
I will be bringing "Mouse's famous brownies"
My friends and I will be combining our plants into one group and just splitting our tickets (some of us just want to get rid of stuff and don't want anything in return, others are just starting out and don't have trades we figured combine and divide would be a good option)
Ps. the van has lots of room since stuff has faded and for some reason with the colder weather no one wants to sign it.
I look foward to more cool writing!

 o
RE: Central Ohio Plantswap/Potluck- Sat. May 19, 2007

Hi Mouse! Glad to hear that you're coming! We'll all be thinking of something profound to write on the van!

 o
RE: Central Ohio Plantswap/Potluck- Sat. May 19, 2007

Mimi, do you guys need anything for the door prizes? I have some more photos in frames that you can use.
I might also have a few gardeney knick nacks.
Just let me know and I will send you more particulars.

 o
RE: Central Ohio Plantswap/Potluck- Sat. May 19, 2007

All,
I have a big purple butterfly bush I'd like to share a piece of at the swap.

Any suggestions on how to get a cutting to grow? Do these root in water?

-- Abbiejan

 o
RE: Central Ohio Plantswap/Potluck- Sat. May 19, 2007

Bakemom -- I'll probably bring pulled pork again. This year I'm tripling up and may have enough! And maybe a dessert...peanut butter pie.... cardamom cookies...must think...

I'm embarassed to say I will have very little in the way of winter-sown seedlings this year. But I'll have a ton of non-plant items -- sachets, sleep pillows, herb containers, maybe even a trellis!

 o
RE: Central Ohio Plantswap/Potluck- Sat. May 19, 2007

Does anyone have a spider plant (houseplant) baby that they'd be willing to share? I'd like to try one. I gave up on house plants years ago due to my cats, but thought I'd try them again.

I should have plenty of WS babies for the swap. maybe a few plants pulled out of my beds too!

I had so much fun last year and can't wait til this years swap!
Barbi

 o
RE: Central Ohio Plantswap/Potluck- Sat. May 19, 2007

Granny57, I've had the BLT dip before and made it myself. It's always a big hit and quite tasty.
Barbi, I have a spider plant. I'll see what I can do to bring you a start. They usually grow like crazy, so it shouldn't be hard to get one going. They grow roots if you put them in water, so I'll see if I can get one started in water for you now.
Can't wait.
My first crocus bloomed today. I'm sooo ready for spring!
Stephanie

RE: Central Ohio Plantswap/Potluck- Sat. May 19, 2007

kin2mice, Let me answer for Mimi! Hope you don't mind Mimi!
YES, we need door prizes, maybe that way everyone will leave with one. Please everyone, bring something. You can even use one of your plants.. a special one! We would all appreciate it. I think everyone has something laying around that there not using. You know one of those little knick-knack things that's hiding in the closet.
Can't wait, I've been out the last couple of days for a little while, love this warmer weather. Can't wait to pot up some plants, soon as they peek out a little more.

Hostalavista Babee, linda

RE: Central Ohio Plantswap/Potluck- Sat. May 19, 2007

I too have a pile of non-plant items. I also have some houseplant starts that I have been rooting over the winter. I have had the parent plants for no less than 15 years. Others - 25 years - so, nice parents.

I'm not sure about winter sowing sprouts ... I enjoy bringing those to the fall swap. I will have all my plants dug by 4/15. Yes, taxes are long done.

What about some really nice meatballs for food? Nice and warm in the crockpot and tasty to munch on. hmmm still thinking.

RE: Central Ohio Plantswap/Potluck- Sat. May 19, 2007

Today I took a walk with my grandkids and we were looking at all the different color crocus after they went home my DH started building me a greenhouse from recycled windows so I'm really in a gardening mood this evening. I plan to bring a collect of six small and mini hosta as a door prize and I'll have many more plants to give away than I wish to take home. Since I'm not into cooking you'll have to forgive me if I don't bring my world famous recipe for whatever but I'll find something tasty to bring.

 o
RE: Central Ohio Plantswap/Potluck- Sat. May 19, 2007

Door prizes, food, plants, friends....sounds like it's almost swappin' time!

I was thinking of making sweet and sour cucumber and onion - like my mom and grandma used to make. Or..maybe a Thai cold noodle peanut salad. I am not sure. Alison...pulled pork does sound good. However, anything you bring always tastes good. (I remember you made a cake with real lavendar in it one year..right)Granny - That BLT dip sounds yummy too! Bakemom - I'd go for something from the crockpot too. Yum.

Kin2mice - your door prize ideas are great. Thanks!

Moa Tse Mom - your idea of the mini hostas is wonderful! They are so hard to find...everyone loves them.

Wouldn't it be fun if everyone could go home with a door prize!

Think spring....Beverly

Gift Certificate from Baker's Acres!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi Folks....once again Chris Baker of Bakers Acres in Alexandria Ohio has emailed offering $50 gift certificate to Baker's Acres as a door prize ticket.

This is the third year. Folks, I never asked him - he always offers. He has a wonderful and kind generosity of sprit. PLUS, the best place in these parts to buy plants. He carries the plants that are often difficult to find. Also, Baker's carries over 100 different kinds of coleus.

Check it out.

Three cheers for Chris Baker!!!!!!!!

Hi everyone!

I have sprouts in my winter sowing jugs, four kind of flowers blooming in the garden and I painted my toenails. That means that it's officially SPRING!

Baker's Acres rocks! Chris is so cool!. I just discovered that old friends of ours have a new hosta and shady plant farm over that way too. I'll have to visit Sarah and Joe when I make my spring pilgrimage to Baker's! I put up a link for anyone who might be interested. I'll be inviting them to the swap as well.

It's getting close!

RE: Central Ohio Plantswap/Potluck- Sat. May 19, 2007

Gee, I don't know where to start, the food, the fun, the plants, door prizes, the Great Garden Friends!
moa tse mom, I love hosta, I would love getting that door prize!
Beverly, your right everyone going home with a door prize would be a good thing, that's why I answered kin2mice as soon as I saw she offered to bring some. Some people who have brought door prizes in the past have gone home without one, so I thought to not have hurt feelings if everyone brought one we would be all leaving in good sprits.
One year I remember we had so many you started drawing all over again. That was a riot
And Chris Baker, what a great guy, thank you to him.
I love that place too.
Mimi, I want to check out the hosta place you talked about too, as you know I love 'em!
Hostalavista Babee!!!!

RE: Central Ohio Plantswap/Potluck- Sat. May 19, 2007

Diane...I just saw your post about the pussy willows...that's fun.

Barbi...I've had by butterfly bushes self seed now and then. However, I would try some tip cuttings dipped in Rootone - put into a light soil mix. I've done that with lavendar.

Folks...we are up to 51 folks saying that they want to attend the swap.

Thing spring....Beverly

 o
RE: Central Ohio Plantswap/Potluck- Sat. May 19, 2007

I'll be bringing a volunteer Butterfly Bush to the swap. It is a pretty purple. Other than that and a roaster full of pasta I don't know what's coming with me!

I'll be bringing some kind of garden chachka for a door prize. I have a naked bowling ball on my sunporch. Hmmm.... Hostalavista, You're right. It would be lovely if everyone could go home with a prize!

I got a pick up full of mulch today from Leigh Anne. A little early but the price was right! Leigh Anne says Hi to all of you. Hostalavista--she still has that rusty wagon for you!

See you all soon!

RE: Central Ohio Plantswap/Potluck- Sat. May 19, 2007

Great! I'll check out what I have in the way of photos in frames. My coworker and I got to go to the Franklin Park conservatory and I got some great plant shots - a bit odd and eclectic but cool. Can't wait to see all of you. My two neighbors might also be coming. So far I have pink perennial mallow, horsetail, who-knows what colour columbine, wild violets (actually quite tame in my yard), and a few houseplants, I am also going to try and get some cranesbill and bergenia if I can.
Can't wait to see all of you!

 o
RE: Central Ohio Plantswap/Potluck- Sat. May 19, 2007

Ahhh the spring pilgrimage to Baker's Acres. Life is good again! Those gift certificates are so generous.

 o
RE: Central Ohio Plantswap/Potluck- Sat. May 19, 2007

Here I am again. Hey, kin2mice, I'd like one of those pink mallow, I have the purple/white stripe, mine aren't up yet but how about a little trade??
I Will have Varigated Vinca, lilac bush, maybe white.
Will probably have some hosta, they are finally peaking through.
I gotta get some hosta together for Leigh Anne, to trade for her rusty wagon, haha.
Someone had extra lavender plants last year, I didn't get any of them but would love to get some this year, I love lavender too, lavender and wagons!!
I'll look this afternoon to see what else I may have.
gotta go, computer acktin funny, even spelling words wrong...

 o
RE: Central Ohio Plantswap/Potluck- Sat. May 19, 2007

Hey, Hostalavista. no prob I have plenty. How many do you want? Are your purple/white perennial (sp?) I don't do too well with seed. I get neglectful of watering and they dry up. anyway, the white/maybe lilac sounds good. My coworker might have some lavender for you as well. Will keep a look out my mum might have some as well. I don't know what kind either of them are (neither do the owners so we will call it "Lavender of Mystery".

 o
RE: Central Ohio Plantswap/Potluck- Sat. May 19, 2007

Hello,
I have get at least 60 plants so far. It has been so nice but, it will get older later. I worry about the flowering trees. I have been dividing plants already. I will be bringing bishop weed (need to dig early) naked lady bulbs or augest lily bulbs, forsythia starts, lily of the valley white, bee balm, columbine, iris very pale blue, chinese lantern, and purple siberian iris.
hostalavista i would be interested in yellow or white lilac.
does anyone have any woodland plants, peony's bushes starts, mini daylily's or hosta? I think the squirels ate my mini hosta.

 o
RE: Central Ohio Plantswap/Potluck- Sat. May 19, 2007

Hi! Diane I would love some of the white beebalm. I think it is one of the few colors I don't have. Anyone have any of the unique colors of echinecha(sp?). There was something else James and I were disscussing we would like but I can't remember what it was. Oh well I'll just have to get on again later when I remember.
James and the kids have got some of the veggie garden planted...peas, potatoes, beets, carrots in. Tomatoes and eggplants are started inside. We have plenty Jerusalem artichokes if anyone is interested. If you don't plant them they are edible. They get really really tall and have a sunflower like flower. Better go. Good gardening.

 o
RE: Central Ohio Plantswap/Potluck- Sat. May 19, 2007

Kin2mice, sure I'll bring you some, these are the only ones I have, they reseed I think, so you don't have to worry about planting them. They just come up every year. I'm hoping they are mallow, they have a small roundish leaf like a hollyhock, is that the way yours are?
and a White(hopefully) lilac is yours too.

Diane, sure I'll bring you a lilac, hopefully it will be white, it is growing close to the white one. I'd like some of your white bee balm too, I don't think I have that, but I do have some called Dotted Mint.
Now don't think that they are Dotted, they are pink, xaroleht do you have that one? I could spare another one.

I better get some notes written, I'm soooo forgetful lately, don't want to disapoint anyone, especially my garden friends. They are the best???
Getting anxious..

 o
RE: Central Ohio Plantswap/Potluck- Sat. May 19, 2007

Hostalavista I would love some of the dotted mint beebalm. I don't think I have that one and I'm game to try about anything. I don't know for sure what we are bringing yet. We will probably split some hostas and some lamiums. Haven't really had the time to think about it. The birthday parties are over, now I just have a surprise bridal shower for my future sister in law and spring break. Maybe then I can start thinking about the gardens.I keep saying to myself "if I can just make it to the end of this month I'll have some time." I think I say "Yes" too much. Anyone else have that problem? Well better go find some dinner. Did use some of the Jerusalem Artichokes last night. If any one is interested we do have quite a few. If you are going to eat them, you use the root. I use them in place of water chestnuts or I like them better in soups than potatoes. TTFN

RE: Central Ohio Plantswap/Potluck- Sat. May 19, 2007

 o
RE: Central Ohio Plantswap/Potluck- Sat. May 19, 2007

Diane, I have some peonies for you. I just got done dividing some. They are either white, pink or fushia. I have no idea some squirrel dug up my old ones and replanted them for me. Hostalavista the stuff is labeled for you, my coworker is going to get you some lavender. My mum's has been squished out.

Now on a completed different topic. My mum's garden is getting over run with a deep blue bell flower (at least that is what it looks like when it blooms) and daisys, and some orange tiger lilies. She has asked me to ask any of you if you would like some. The catch is that you have to dig them yourself with my help. I think there is enough for 5 people. I am bringing some to the swap but there is plenty left. She lives in Groveport and will be gone for most of april but I will be house sitting and know what needs to be dug and will be there most sundays and fridays all day and before 11am on the rest of the days.
Thanks, just shoot me an email at kin2mice@yahoo.com if you are interested.

RE: Central Ohio Plantswap/Potluck- Sat. May 19, 2007

Now What????
Everything is F-F-F-frozen off...
All the hard work on those nice days...
What were we thinking???
So do we cut off the limpy stuff
And start over again?
I have a plant show May 4 and 5, I don't have a green house
I could fix up a small cold frame with plastic and maybe a light bulb or three!!! Help us all...
But Alas, I know it's not food, what about our food crops?
Boy are we going to be paying through the nose!!!

 o
RE: Central Ohio Plantswap/Potluck- Sat. May 19, 2007

I'm used to the cold dips, but not this prolonged freeze. I only lost my calendulas and eyeball plant seedlings, but I'm not sure what mature plants are going to be affected.

We will just do our best and start over if need be.

One of my Bakemom phlox (woodland) has already perked back up and is ready for the swap. Time will tell.

 o
RE: Central Ohio Plantswap/Potluck- Sat. May 19, 2007

Hi Beverly and Mimi and everyone! Mom and I will be there, wouldn't miss it for the world. We're looking forward to seeing everyone again.

This cold snap sure made my daffs sad and droopy, but otherwise we're doing pretty good here. My brother lost all his peach blossoms, and the saucer magnolia next door lost all the flower buds. :( Luckily the only shrub here that seems to have gotten nipped was the lilac, and it doesn't look too bad. It doesn't seem to have bothered anything I've potted up for the swap so far. I'm hoping it won't keep the germander from filling out, I just potted up a bunch of starts before it hit.

See you all soon!

 o
RE: Central Ohio Plantswap/Potluck- Sat. May 19, 2007

Yippee! My mother and sister are coming up from Cincinnati with a trunk full of varigated hosta -- and something tasty to eat, I'm sure.

 o
RE: Central Ohio Plantswap/Potluck- Sat. May 19, 2007

Hi guys,

Just back from spending the winter in sunny Mexico and we came back to snow! My flowers are droopy and my lilac looks awful! The good news is the blossoms did not all fall off my peach tree so I may have peaches in spite of it all. I plan on coming and bringing three or four of my family. Will probably bring glass as usual. I would especially like to trade for shade wildflowers.

 o
RE: Central Ohio Plantswap/Potluck- Sat. May 19, 2007

You guys helped me get started putting together our first plant swap and I just want to thank you so much.

I can't remember who it was that helped me about 3 or 4 years ago but thanks.

I can tell that you all have so much fun and that's what makes a plant swap good.

Keep doing what you're doing. It works.

All my best, Carol Ann

Hi Everyone!

I'm delivering a message for Beverly. It goes for me too! (All except the computer trouble of course!)

Hi folks...been having trouble with my computer. I've tried to post, but it doesn't. I'll try again!

Jeanne...glad you and your mom will come again!!

Alison...I look forward to your mom attending as well - of course - those var. hostas will travel again to different parts of Ohio and beyond. Love it.

Hi Shadowgarden - glad your back. Yes, alot of us have suffered with frosted spring plants, trees and shrubs. Mother nature does her own thing! As always, I look forward to your glass goodies.

Hi Carolann....SO GLAD your Texas swap has gone well. Plant swaps are some of the most fun things. Thanks for letting us know that the folks at the Central Ohio swap could help!!

Think spring.....Beverly (and Mimi too!)

Spring has sprung

The grass has riz

I wonder where my flowers is!!!

 o
RE: Central Ohio Plantswap/Potluck- Sat. May 19, 2007

I'll be late to the swap. It's the Komen Columbus Race for the Cure and me and my three kids (15, 17 and 21) are all walking in it.

 o
RE: Central Ohio Plantswap/Potluck- Sat. May 19, 2007

Good news and bad news here. The good news is that my son-in-law is coming home for a little well deserved R&R from Iraq. The bad news - he's arriving on the 16th and my sister has planned a large homecoming party for the same day as the swap. :( This will be the first swap I've missed since the first Autumn swap. Hope you all have a wonderful day, and hopefully mom and I will see you all this fall.

 o
RE: Central Ohio Plantswap/Potluck- Sat. May 19, 2007

Karen, Jodie and I plan on coming and it's possible some others. I will bring about six varieties of heirloom tomatoes and lord knows what else. Karen will probably make her spectacular potato salad.

 o
RE: Central Ohio Plantswap/Potluck- Sat. May 19, 2007

Hi, all! We spent about 5 hours working on just the front flower beds Sat. and still have more to do. Naomi worked hard. Have peas coming up in the garden and James has already transplanted tomatoes once. Just got some seeds from Belarus yesterday, we'll see what they do.
Shadowgarden-glad to see you are coming...and bringing glass again. I think I have added to my collection each year. It's such a treat. I remember the first year you brought it, it went several rounds before it was gone, now I think it goes first.
Jeanne - Glad to hear that your son-in-law will be home for some r&r. It's important to spend that time with family. We'll be thinking of you and praying for his safe passage home.
Still need to pot things up for the swap. Have a small one in Strasburg the week before. Anyone looking for anything special?
Better get Noah off to school. Wait till you see how the kids have grown this winter. Can't wait to see everyone.

 o
RE: Central Ohio Plantswap/Potluck- Sat. May 19, 2007

Bakemom...come when you can! There will be lots of food and lots of plants and lots of friends!

Jeanne...we'll miss you..but, I am SO happy your son in law will be home and he deserves a grand party. That's right..you were at the first one so many years ago.

Hi Sunbury girl...sounds great! Everyone loves tomatoes and that yummy potato salad.

I can't wait to see Naomi and Noah...it's been a pleasure watching them grow!

See you all soon...think spring...think swap....Beverly

Hi All,
Was out looking around today for a bit and was pleasantly surprised to see how many Hostas have come up and others starting to.They all look nice and pretty right now.Everything looks so fresh and pretty and green.Whatever worries I was stressing over have as of today been put on the shelf.Thank Goodness for Strong and almost indestructible Hosta plants. They basically take care of themselves. That's one of the reasons there my favorite plants not to mention their beauty.I'm hoping to have some nice Hostas to trade. We'll see.
What's everybody been doing lately? How are your garden favorites doing? What are they?
It's getting closer,Don't know about any of you,But I'm starting to get excited!!!

RE: Central Ohio Plantswap/Potluck- Sat. May 19, 2007

Hi Gang,

Granny I’m so glad your hostas are doing well! I went out after the freeze and was stunned how many of my best hostas were frozen to mush. Many have not recovered yet. My Pandora’s Box is down to one eye. My Fragrant Fire is completely mush and has not sent up any new growth since the freeze. Now, my old standbys are fine, but ARGH-- not some of the fancy-dancy ones I planned to trade this year. They are awful! Maybe they are telling me they don’t want to move.

Now, my daylilies are fine even though a vole moved in and has been spending the winter eating the roots. Too bad my cats are indoor cats. ;~) I should have plenty of them to trade this year. (That’s daylilies not voles.) Also, my pink spiderwart and forget-me-nots (blue) went crazy this year, so they will be looking for new homes.

I’ll have more of a list later. Take care all! Looking forward to seeing you all!
Trish

 o
RE: Central Ohio Plantswap/Potluck- Sat. May 19, 2007

Trish,
I'm so sorry to hear that your fancy Hostas are mush.I guess I'm a lucky person to have mine looking so good at this stage of the season.I've heard of a few others whose Hostas were hit pretty hard this year. But they are tuff little things and I'm sure they'll come out of it just fine.
Hostalavista,Hagey,Srorygardener,Mimi,And anyone else I gave a start of White Fearther to last year. How are they doing?I planted 2 different White Feather Hostas in 2 different areas and the one out back is looking great!!!The other one close to the house is doing good but not as big.I may have a start to trade but not sure at this point.
Keep our fingers crossed.

RE: Central Ohio Plantswap/Potluck- Sat. May 19, 2007

My mother's Sum and Substance hosta are toast as well -- and those were her favorites.

Unfortunately I have to retract a few guests. Neither my mother nor sister will be able to come up from Cincinnati -- they've got a big neighborhood do on the same day. And my friends Terri, Diane and Janice will be at a retreat that weekend, so they won't be able to make it.

But I'm pretty sure my fiends Fred and Leone will come again, and I'll definetely be there, plants and pork in tow!

 o
Me and my typos...

I meant my friends Fred and Leone. Trust me, they're not fiends at all. Except on the subject of Browns football....

 o
RE: Central Ohio Plantswap/Potluck- Sat. May 19, 2007

Granny...I am getting excited too! Now that it is May...wow, it's really getting close.

Trish....my Pandora's Box is down to one eye, too. It's a cute little thing..but, certainly never gets very full!

Alison ...sorry your family can't attend this year - the friends too. But, the fiends are welcome!! I like the Browns, too!

Think spring...think plants...think swap!

RE: Central Ohio Plantswap/Potluck- Sat. May 19, 2007

Just wanted to tell everyone that I will be unable to make the spring swap, coming in the fall though. Last year a dream came true for my sister and I, we were able to attend the daylily mecca in Deltona, it was wonderful. I never thought I would be able to go this year but I was talking about it and some friends of mine said they would love some beach time, so four of us are going down, I am so excited. But I will be there in the fall and can't wait to see everyone again. Twila

I purchased some meatballs today that are the swedish kind. I'm trying to decide what kind of sauce to simmer them in. I have a pineapple habanero from Fresh Market that I would love to use mixed with some KC masterpiece. It will be spicy with an unexpected touch of fruit. Delish. Still thinking and will be surfing the web for more ideas.

 o
RE: Central Ohio Plantswap/Potluck- Sat. May 19, 2007

Mmmmmmmmmm! that sounds great Karen! I will be bringing something Italian as always.

I need to get digging! I have had several setbacks lately, including a night off at the hospital, that have set me back. I usually have everything potted up by now. Oy! At least most of what I have to bring is indestructible, Stella's, Hostas, Mum and the like. Tomorrow better be sunny so that I can get Beverly and my plants out of the ground.

I do have some things ready for door prizes. Stuff I've made as usual.

I'm getting excited!

RE: Central Ohio Plantswap/Potluck- Sat. May 19, 2007

Hi -
Potted up my swap plants (had to do not since knee surgery is this week).

Besides outdoor plants, am wondering if houseplants are an option?

I have a few small jades that I really don't have room for. They're from good plants but I always root too many babies and then have too many jades!

Getting excited about the swap!

 o
RE: Central Ohio Plantswap/Potluck- Sat. May 19, 2007

Abbiejan-Of course you can bring house plants! If it grows...we'll swap it. (no kittens, please! =))

11 days and counting!

FORECAST - Sat - May 19 - Partly Cloudy - 75°/54° 20% rain

That's the forcast for next Saturday. Of course, it could change a half dozen times. But, the outlook is good, so far.

I am thinking of making Thai Cold Noodle Salad (noodles, peanut, soy, cukes, green onions, hot sauce) or sweet and sour cucumber and onions. Any requests.

It will be fun to see folks! Can't wait.

Bakemom...those meatballs sure sound good!

Baker's Acres Gift Certificate has arrived!!!! :)

Hi....I got the Gift Certificate from Chris Baker ($50) from BAKERS ACRES in Alexandria, Oh - for the Grand Door Prize. I am so amazed and thrilled with his kindness and generosity - I've never asked for this certificate. He always emails ME asking if we'd like it.

I think a road trip is in order to BAkers sometime after the swap!!! - we'lll have to plan on it, folks.

See you all soon.........Beverly

 o
RE: Central Ohio Plantswap/Potluck- Sat. May 19, 2007

Beverly, if my opinion counts, the Thai Noodle salad sounds wonderful.
Barbi- I'm trying with the spider plant. My cat tried to make a meal out of it, so it doesn't look too glamorous now. But, it should survive and thrive, especially if you don't have cats that like to eat all your indoor plants. We have to find tricky spots to put ours where the cat can't jump!
Looking forward to the swap.

hi,
swap is so near. i hope the weather is nice. we always have a great potluck. also tons and tons of lovely wonderful plants.
i will not be being the fall swap anymore. if any one is interested please let me know at the plant swap. the shelter house has went from $30-50 + deposit. at the last several fall swaps & potluck there has been about 40 people.
see you at the swap diane garrett

 o
RE: Central Ohio Plantswap/Potluck- Sat. May 19, 2007

Diane,

Sorry to hear you won't be doing the fall swap. I'm sure it is a lot of work. I'd be glad to do it if it could be moved to the middle of August because once school starts, I swamped! However, I know that it is a terrible time to transplant things, so if someone else can do it later, that would be great!

Everybody,

I’ve got my list of the daylilies I will be bringing this year.
Jamacia Rose
Arigatou
Roses in Snow
Tangerine Horses
Calgary Stampede
Funny Valentine

I already have lilies-of-the-valley potted up to come. I’ll do most of my potting this weekend.

 o
RE: Central Ohio Plantswap/Potluck- Sat. May 19, 2007

For the fall swap, we could always try a different location in Columbus. The Olentangy Highland Park (off 23) has free pavilions, but it is first come first serve.
I'm sure we can find a less expensive place if we put our heads together!
Stephanie

 o
RE: Central Ohio Plantswap/Potluck- Sat. May 19, 2007

This is a bit of a long-shot, but a friend of mine is looking for blueberries, hardy grapes, or nut trees. (Like hazelnut, heartnut, butternut, etc.) He's given all of us at work a lot of things from his yard, and I'd love to come up with something for him!

Let me know, and we can work out a trade!

 o
RE: Central Ohio Plantswap/Potluck- Sat. May 19, 2007

Beverly - request for that famous cuke salad...so refreshing and old fashioned! Of course I haven't met a noodle salad I didn't like. How about BOTH? hehe.

I'm also looking forward to Mimi's famous italian love in a pot. It's such a pleasure to encounter a true italian cook.

Is it just me or does anyone else enjoy the food as much as the plants...and of course the good company?

I'm excited! I have a bunch of things potted up and looking good. I also have some pots and "stuff" to bring. You all know how much I love stuff! I have a couple of blue bottles that I've decorated for hanging in the garden. (Just had to add some bling to the idea of the bottle tree!) They will be door prizes. Maybe even a bottle bug too!

One week and counting!

RE: Central Ohio Plantswap/Potluck- Sat. May 19, 2007

Did I mention that I also made a teapot bird house for a door prize also? I also made the bottle bug last night He has red beads on his wings and blue eyes. My boys dubbed him the dragonfly! Fun stuff!

Bev and I will get serious about checking out our paper supplies after she gets back from her trip to see her grand baby. (Be sure to ask her or Murray to see pics. He's a cutie!) The signs are all ready and tables are accessible.
Just one more thing.....

HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY TO YOU ALL!

RE: Central Ohio Plantswap/Potluck- Sat. May 19, 2007

Happy Mother's day to all. Went to a "warm up" swap yesterday to get in shape for next week. Got a few nice things. Then spent a wonderful 5 hours in historic Zoar. Most of their gardens are going yet this year but everyone should take a trip later this summer to see what's been done. Gotta get our plants from yesterday planted and tomorrow is a planting day at Schoenbrunn Historical Village. Hopefully somewhere in there we will get some potting done for next week. Have some hosta's ready to go. May bring some Jacob's ladder and some Jerusalem Artichokes. Not sure what else yet. Anyone have any white beebalm? or verigated Jacob's ladder? Will check with James to see if there is anything else we need. Better get outside have lots of things to get in and out of the beds. Have a wonderful day and pray we have such nice weather next week. Peace and roses. Michelle

RE: Central Ohio Plantswap/Potluck- Sat. May 19, 2007

two messages
1. Hostalavista - I tried to make some cuttings of the lavender from my coworker - no signs of life yet but it is early and she will give me some fresh cuttings for you to try. (the little plants she had ready for you died in a freak neighborhood dog accident)
2 I am down to just two people coming. me and my mum. my coworker has been called in and my neighbor is in the hospital with pneumonia (he'll be okay just not up to doing a swap)

Happy Mothers day Ya'll.
I've got two really cool frames and pics and some cool coupons to Bluestone perrenials for door prizes.
see you there!

RE: Central Ohio Plantswap/Potluck- Sat. May 19, 2007

Yes...I agree with Bakemom - the food is always fantastic at the swap. Gardeners seem to be good cooks too!

Mimi dug up a bunch of my things for the swap (I have new foot problems stemming from previouss ones - darn!!)-

iris - grape jelly - dark purple
new york purple aster
penstemon red husker
black eyed susan
ground cover sedum
clematis- sweet autumn
filenpendula - queen of the prairie
phlox paniculatta

There's probably others - I can't recall.

I am looking for rock garden plants for a sunny location.

The weather looks good. Mimi has made some really cute garden "pretties'" for door prizes.

Can't wait to see all of you.

Ken2mice,
I'm having trouble with plants not to mention computers!
But my Mallow didn't come up this year, my friend said that was funny because hers didn't come up either.
Is there something else I could bring you?

 o
RE: Central Ohio Plantswap/Potluck- Sat. May 19, 2007

I divided my hardy hibiscus and will be bringing starts from it to the swap. You can see a picture of the pretty color in the seed trade section of my trade list.

RE: Central Ohio Plantswap/Potluck- Sat. May 19, 2007

If memory serves me correct, I'm bringing the following:
Hosta Golden Tiarra
H. Blue Cadet
H. Lancifolia
Pulmonaria
Sweet Woodruff
Celadine Poppy
Forget me nots
Jack in the pulpits
Myrtle
Wild Geranium
Lamium
That's all I can remember while sitting at my desk.
Can you tell I have a shady yard?
Can't wait for the swap. The weather looks perfect.
I'm so excited to see all of our plants that we got at the Fall swap popping up now. Pretty soon I will be able to divide those too.
Anyone interested in a special swap for a Turtlehead? I'm always looking for interesting hostas. The turtlehead has pretty pink flowers and it seems to do very well in our shady yard.
See you all there!

Steph....you have a great list!!

See you all soon...the weather should be good.

Hostalavista, I am pretty easy going as to what you could bring. I love surprises and since I not keeping what you swap (its going to my coworker) she says she does not care. You can have them for free, (since there is no guarentee they will actually root) she just needed to trim her lavender really bad and was thankful someone could take the trimmings.

see ya tommorow.
I'll be running a tad late have to take my boyfriend to work at 10am so I should show at around 11am)

I have the meatballs in the crockpot and my spicy barbeque sauce mixed to add tomorrow morning. I will get it started while we head downtown for Race for the Cure.

I only have 16 plants this year due to craaaazy weather that did not accomodate my work schedule. I hope to have more items this fall.

I have some houseplant babies potted up. These plants are special to me as some I have had since I was 19. I'm 45. Nothing rare or anything, just nice and easy to grow inside. I only keep 2 plants inside all year and three additional come in and out with the seasons.

RE: Central Ohio Plantswap/Potluck- Sat. May 19, 2007

Sorry to scoot out of there without saying good bye, but I was one sore pup. We were talking at the potluck and thinking about putting together a sign in the memory of or in celebration of breast cancer survivors for next years race. We can talk about that next year if you want.

I brought about 30 items and took home 12 - mostly items for my elderly parents' shade garden. Celedine poppy, bloodroot, plumed solomon's seal and some lamiums. I have a nice phlox I want to practice rooting cuttings from and Alison's cupid's dart to add to the ones I winter sowed last year.

I hope you guys liked the meatballs - I was glad they got snarfed up. Next swap, I'm thinking hashbrown cheesy creamy casserole.

Thanks Mimi and Beverly - another job well done.

RE: Central Ohio Plantswap/Potluck- Sat. May 19, 2007

Hi folks!

WOW! What a day - it was wonderful. Despite the big winds early in the morning, and they grey sky during the day - our outlooks were sunny! (Thanks to Betty and Ron for taping on the tableclothes - as they kept blowing off early this am.)

It was wonderful seeing long time friends and making new friends, too. It's amazing, I met Noah when he was just past being a baby & now he'll be in third grade. I loved seeing everyone!

Thanks to everyone for making today's swap so much fun. The plants were great with a good variety. The food was fantastic - gardener's sure can cook and bake. The door prizes were amazing. I think we had over forty!!

Now to the count....we had 135+ people today. That's the most ever. We had about 2183 plants - according to the sign in book.

Murray and I brought 24 plants this year. Murray got some tomatoes and he's happy! I got some rock garden plants, 2 small tufa pots with plants, white swan echinacea, salvia, lamium, beautiful glass from shadowgarden and a few more. SO MUCH FUN! I brought the bed frame to trade today...does anyone know who took that home for the new "bed"? (Just curious?)

I wish I had a chance to see what you all got. That's as much fun as getting goodies yourself.

Lisa Collier mentioned that she might do the swap in the fall. Stay tuned...we'll see what happens. My son is getting married on Sept. 29 - I"ll have a busy September.

Bakemom....yes, I loved those meatballs. Is that a new recipe? Your hashbrown cheesey casserole sounds good too. But, if there's a fall swap - we couldn't possibly live without your apple salad. :)

Folks, thanks again. Keep in touch. Have a great spring and summer.

...Beverly

RE: Central Ohio Plantswap/Potluck- Sat. May 19, 2007

What a great swap! I'm exhausted, but it was well worth it. We got everything planted today, which is quite a feat since I think we left with more than we brought. I'm thrilled with all my new hostas.
Thanks Beverly and Mimi.
I really hope there's a fall swap as well!

RE: Central Ohio Plantswap/Potluck- Sat. May 19, 2007

Thanks Beverly and Mimi you created a wonderful event again this year! And, thanks to your hubby's for helping you make it happen!

I got a bunch of wonderful things! Gratefully I took more than I brought home. What I brought home was magic lilies (which my husband just loves), Wabash Iris (which I just fell in love with), some Black Eyed Susan (to give to a friend), a bag of Purple Iris (which I gave all but one piece of to a friend), some ground covers, and three hostas (Sea Dream, Orphan Child and Golden Tierra). Then I was silly enough to go a nursery close by and buy $84.00 worth of plants. On one of the other forums, I heard about a new disease CHAD (Chronic Horticultural Acquisition Disorder) I think I have a serious case.

Thanks for the Private trades Granny57 and Hostalavista!

Thanks to everyone! It was great!

Trish

What a fantastic swap! we got lots of stuff - me and mum that is! However I could not find the gal I was supposed to give the pink peony to. (at least I am pretty sure it is pink the buds look more like my pink peony buds then my white ones) nor could I find the gal that needed the lavender that unfortunality my coworkers neighborhood stray dogs got into. She is going to give me more cuttings when hers fills out over the summer and would like to give them to the same person who needed them.
anyway shoot me an email with your addresses and I will get them mailed out or if you live near the Hilltop you can pick them up.

Hi -
What a great day it was! Like Christmas in spring!

THANK YOU Beverly, Mimi and your families!

Maybe we can post recipes from the swap? I'd love that meatballs recipe!

(Granny57 - that houseplant I brought is a Rosary Vines, aka String of Hearts. It likes bright, indirect light.)

RE: Central Ohio Plantswap/Potluck- Sat. May 19, 2007

Don't feel bad, trish; I stopped off at the garden center and picked up $20 worth of vinca vine on the way home. I'd been putting off getting it, because I always pick up what I need at the swap -- but there was a scarcity this year. (I think I spent less than $20 on the 50 plants I brought!)

I had a wonderful time and picked up some lovely planters and plant stands. The feverfew, centaurea, penstemon and lady's mantle are already in the ground. The hens-and-chicks and the purple trad (Purple Queen? Moses-in-the-basket?) are already in their containers. I've suspended the two glass globes with the wide collars from fishing line, and they're hanging in my bedroom windows with coleus cuttings. And I'm trying to decide how to trick-out some of those plant stands for my upcoming yard sale.

As always, the best part of the swap was the people. Some folks I've know since I was a little kid, some folks I only see at the swap, some folks I've lured in over the years. All great people and great friends, and I only wish I could get there early enough to spend time chatting with everyone.

I told Bev I think part of the reason the swap works so well is that gardeners are at the same time the most generous -- and the most covetous -- people on the plant. We all want a little bit of every plant -- and then we want to share it with everyone else, along with comments about our experiences.

Next year, I'll have the car loaded up the night before, so I can get there earlier!

Abbie jan,
Thank You for the info and name to the Beautiful house plant you brought and I was so lucky to have gotten.I never noticed it till it was almost time to leave and it was sitting all by it's lonesome.I just happened by and it caught my eye.I've never seen any house plant like it.I'm very surprised that you gave it up.It's very unusual and the leaves almost have a succulent type and feel to them.
I will enjoy it very much,I hope you saved some for yourself.
Alison,
Don't know how I did,But I missed seeing you there.Hopefully next time.
I'm still hoping to hear from the person who made the salad with the cut up broccoli.I really loved the salad. But I will understand if you don't want to part with the recipe.((NOT))LOL

Thank you Beverly and Mimi for hosting the swap. We had a great time. Thanks to both for the tour of your gardens. I love the blue bottle you gave us Mimi and the plants from Beverly.
Beverly we are going to change our choice for the Starliner next time as we seen some other items that looked good to try.
Our journey home was not good as a deer ran into the mirror on the driver's side and removed it. It also broke the window but it did not fall out. There is a line across the side that is bent so all that has to be done. We cannot get the car back for about 12 days.
Thanks for all the great plants we got. We will try to plant on Wednesday. Thanks again everyone. Betty

Thanks Beverly and Mimi!. As usual, the swap was a blast and it owes so much to your wonderful planning and personalities! It is always such a treat to see folks I haven't seen for a year, to taste the incredible potluck and of course to take home little plant treasures. I brought two more 'swap virgins' this year and they are hooked! Thanks again!
