Planting Geraniums in pots on a westward facing porch

I am new to Texas and I am discovering that plants that were full sun in Illinois are not full sun plants in Texas. I would like to plant Geraniums in pots on a porch that faces west and gets afternoon sun in the summer from about 4:00 on, will they make it through the summer heat?

RE: Planting Geraniums in pots on a westward facing porch

I learned after my first visit to Florida and being warned...."The Florida sun is not the sun of Ontario"....
and it is so true.
I once got hel* from a young mother on the beach when I saw her baby....a baby, not a young child...without a hat on or any protection for her head and I spoke up.
She came at me as though I was trying to tell her how to care for HER baby.
She sauntered off and for quite a while I could see her still on the beach, in full afternoon sun and the baby still without a hat. What does a Canadian know...?

Southern sun to be sure....is not the same sun as what comes to us in the north.
Southern plants are directly encouraged to be given shade for their roots even when the direct afternoon sun is not a factor.

I think small annuals, a rock of size, some gravel...can help plants putting up with afternoon sun in Texas.
