CRANESBILL have you had luck with bareroots

Posted by carla17 Z7 (My Page) on

I'm looking at a site that has a good selection of bareroots. Last year I ordered some, planted, and they died. I got a refund but still love their selection.
Does anyone have advice or good/bad experiences with planting the BR's, and when should they be planted for my zone 7b?

Thank you!
Carla

The problem with bare root perennials is they can dry out too much and die. The must be kept moist at all times

I have had the best success with mail-order plants when they are sent in small pots or at least with a "ball" of soil firmly around the the roots. This moist "rootball" is then wrapped in newspaper or saran wrap for shipping. Shipping costs may be a bit more than bare root, but if the plants die, you are no further ahead, just disappointed and frustrated.
