Hi Ed: I don't know if I can answer all your questions, but I will offer my experience. As a child growing up, my mother used to grow a little plant on the front balcony which she called "Sweet Geranium". This plant (I now realize) had the familiar indented leaves like other Geraniums, but it never flowered. However, when gently stroked, the leaves gave off a wonderful perfume. I have a few Geraniums in my garden which flower, but the leaves of one in particular produces a beautiful perfume when stroked. The scent remains on your hand for some time. The flowers have no scent that I am aware of. Perhaps all these scented Geraniums of which you speak carry their scent in their foliage, not their flowers. Hope someone else can more definitively answer your questions.

Yes, scented geraniums have fragrant *leaves*, not flowers. If you lightly brush your hands over the leaves, the fragrance will come off on your hands & be very easy to smell. Their flowers tend to be small & not all that showy compared to the "non-scented geraniums" (whose leaves have a smell all their own) that are grown for their larger, bright flowers. I think the latter are what you're describing. The leaves are shaped differently too--floral geranium leaves tend to be round with a little scalloping around the edge, whereas scented geranium leaves ( depending on the type) come in different shapes, many looking more like fingers spread out on a hand.
