 o
geraniums hit by cold..is all lost?

Hello,

This is my first year planting geraniums. I planted mine out a few weeks ago and we have had some rather chilly weather a few times. One website I found states:

"Geraniums that have been injured by cold temperatures will stand still and make little growth, often with red foliage. A late-May planting will be more satisfactory as the plants will establish better." (http://ohioline.osu.edu/hyg-fact/1000/1217.html).

By saying they "stand still" does this mean my geraniums have been stunted permanately by the cold? Some of the geraniums that are out in the yard have this red foliage mentioned above. The ones in pots on the deck appear to be fine.

I'd appreciate anyone's imput on this. If the plants I've already put in the ground aren't going to grow, I'd rather know now while I can still get more. Thanks again for your time.

Michelle

Geraniums will be ok, Pelargoniums might not be.

thanks waplummer. I think mine are the Pelargoniums? I got them from Walmart and Lowes, two planted in a pot to look like one full plant?

If you have pelargoniums and they survived the cold snap, just trim off any foliage damaged by the cold (if any). They will not be permanently stunted.
