Ripped-out-of-garden woody perennial geraniums

Good friend filled a black garbage bag with these
pieces of woody twigs with small clumps of green leaves
attached and told me that these were wonderful perennial
geraniums.

I'm soaking them in a few buckets of water. How shall
I plant them--the woody stuff needs to be in the earth?
(My own perennial geraniums-like Rozanne, and Johnson's
Blue do NOT form these woody extensions.)

Yes, I'm sure that they are geraniums--the leaves give them away.

Any advice here would be helpful.

Hi,
I hope you did plant them with the woody part in the soil. You were correct. You should of seen some root too which would of made it easier to know how to plant, but maybe your friend pulled them out of the ground.
