Hanging baskets filled with pelagorium... can I

| keep them in hanging baskets ALL summer and then take them out and repot them in bigger pots when I overwinter? I have no problem overwintering geraniums, but I have never bought the hanging baskets and I would like to keep them in their original hanging container for a couple of reasons - I imagine that if people "hang" those baskets all summer (which I don't do), it must be okay.,. Thanks |

I overwinter my geraniums by digging them up before winter. After the foilage is dry and falling off, I place each root in a small brown paper bag (like for packing your lunch). Those bags are kept in my basement (a non-freezing garage, crawl space or cellar would work). Near spring I pot them back up and get them ready for summer in fresh soil. They are going to get bigger and bigger so you may need to move up a pot size anyway. |

Overwintering geraniums is not a problem for me - because I have been doing it for years - just putting them in my garage - My "wonder" is if I could keep some new geraniums in their original "hanging" basket - and repot at the END of the season - or would they outgrow that pot by November? I will discard the ugly hanging basket, but I have a use for it now (placing it in an urn without holes). |

| I have hanging Ivy Geraniums each year and they look great all summer as long as they are not in full sun July and August and get enough water. Kathy |

| Okay - BUT... my question is: Can I keep the pelagoriums IN the hanging basket UNTIL summer is over - and THEN repot? I just wondered if maybe it would outgrow that hanging basket. Ivy geraniums are different (I guess...) but I will keep those in mind. Thanks - if anyone knows if they can stand the small hanging basket all summer - please let me know.. Thanks |
