LONG Blooming geranium

Thinking of long-blooming - compact - not leggy geranium.
Any of you have experience with "wageningen" (an oxonianum) or "mavis simpson"?

I am not fond of biokovo or johnson's blue. Everyone goes on about Rozanne - I didn't have much luck with that either

Any suggestions? I'd like it to have showier flowers and remain pretty compact.

thx!

I love my geranium "Alan Bloom." It blooms all season long with occasional deadheading. Hot pink blooms, low growing, not a sprawler.

Any of the cinereums - 'Ballerina', 'Lawrence Flatman', 'Purple Pillow', 'Guiseppe', var. subcaulescens.

Look for G. Jolly Bee or Nimbus. Mavis Simpson is long-blooming but not especially hardy, worth a try, though. I have Mavis and she is nice, as well as the others mentioned. The various oxonianums are more sprawly in growth habit. I had G.oxon.Claridge Druce for many years and discarded it because of self-seeding and the leaves always browned around the edges.

madsud, where are you in zone 5?

gardengal, in my experience here (Great Lakes) I don't think the G. cinereum types are as long-blooming as what you experience in the PNW.

If you're looking for "compact", I would go with one of the G. sanguineum selections. Generally, I don't picture any of the G. oxanianum types to be "compact".

Keep in mind however, that none of these will be as long-blooming as 'Rozanne' or 'Jolly Bee'.

if you can find geranium wlassovianum seeds this is one of the best geraniums I know. It has long bloom time starting June and going well into fall, and gorgeous burgundy red foliage in the fall. It does reseeds but you happy to have more and reasonably compact.
Check out Plant World Seeds for geranium section.

Geranium wallichianum has a very long flowering period but is can spread maybe 4 feet across. When you get fed up with it cut it back to the ground and it will be up flowering again within a few weeks.

Rozanne aka Jolly Bee are fantastic. Because they are sterile the flowering period is from late spring to the first hard frosts
