greenhouse geraniums

I just planted 4 geraniums obtained from a local nursery into individual pots. A couple have 2 branches, the other have only 1 stalk with a flowr at the top. I know they should be pruned back to force side growth. How far down should I prune and how long before I might see flowers again? I'm really considering starting from seed next year.

I've found that that geraniums today are self branching and do fine when not cut back when young and small.

I agree with greenhouser that most varieties now are self branching, but if you want to pinch them, all you need to do is remove the growth tip. This is at the end of the stem, where the new leaves emerge from. You do not need to take too much off and pinching will usually delay flowering on that branch for 3 or 4 weeks.
