Cranesbill 'Brookside' as Present...Have ?'s

Hello. I just received two beautiful Brookside geraniums and need advice as to how I should treat them.
I searched this site and found some info but would like to know: Are they heavy feeders? Do they require much water? Sun/Part shade?
Also, my neighbor told me to shear them back. Does this mean I should cut them to the ground after the blooms have gone or just trim them back half way?
Do I need to cover them over winter with mulch? It's a pretty blue flower but the stems are about 18"-20" and pretty wild looking.
I'd really appreciate any advice and tips.
Thanks. J.

They are pretty hardy, so no need for any special winter care. They grow bigger and bloom more in full sun, but still do great in partly shady areas. After blooming, I cut them back about half way or so, and they send up fresh foliage and sporadic blooms. They are drought tolerant after they are established, but need more water the first year. I don't fertilize my perennial garden, but I do feed the soil with compost and shredded leaves.

Thank you for your response. I've never seen this variety before. Are these considered true geraniums?

Yes, it's a cultivar.
