G macrorrhizum viability

I have a neighbor that ripped out a large section of G macrorrhizum and I happened to come along as they were finishing. I asked if I could take the bag of plants they were discarding. So, now I have a large Hefty trash bag with rizhoms with folliage still on it. I didn't have time/energy to plant them right away. I've been misting/watering them every day but they are showing the stress. Is there any hope for them? How long can I abuse them before planting and they'll still live? Do the roots store all the life and so while this year they will look tough next year they will come back as if nothing happened? (Hoping hoping...)

Don't you have a holding bed that you could plop them in. Or just dig one big hole and put the clumps in and water them well.

Or even a large flowerpot with enough soil to cover the roots.
