OK need the REAL spacing for Pelargoniums in a bed

The plant tag says 12 inches, but I'm not sure I buy that ... not in this short growing zone. These are little Mavericks, and I'm not sure exactly how well they will grow in my beds as this is the first year I've tried Maverick Geraniums*. In one area by the entrance, I'd like to smash 'em in there to create a profusion of color. I was considering 6" apart. Am I crazy?

*I know they're pelargoniums; I'm just going by the plant tag. =)

They WILL grow 12-14" wide and high. I'm assuming that you purchased in 4" pots? 6" spacing will be too close - you will invite foliar problems.
