Geraniums in S. Tex in Summer

Usually during our hot summers in south Texas, I lose my geraniums. I was wondering if anyone has ever pulled them, put in brown sacks and kept in the air conditioned house for the summer and then split to start new plants in the fall when it cools off some. This is what I used to do up north during the winter and new plants started easily in the spring. Thanks in advance for advice.
