Firstly are you growing Pelargoniums or hardy Geraniums? For my Pelargoniums I always remove the flowers before each group has finished. There is no point wasting time and energy of the last flower or two unless you are planning to collect seeds. I dont mind plants getting leggy provided they are flowering well however could your leggy stems be a result of too little light. I remove dead and dying leaves as soon as I see them
