Sevin on Geraniums?

I just did a search here to find out a cure for the catepillars that are attacking my geraniums. From what I read they are budworms? They are leaving little holes in the buds and I found a few 1 inch long catepillars. I found them when I noticed poop on the leaves below the flowers. Anyway... I went to the garden center and they told me to spray them with Sevin. I did not see any mention of that product here and I was wondering if it was the right stuff to use? Something is also eating my Petunias and I am sure they are catepillars. They suggested the Sevin for both. Is this good advice?

Thanks!

If the catepillars are small, you can use dipel on them.
