Scented Geranium Pruning Problem

Posted by BSG1 z7 NY (My Page) on

Help. I pruned back a number of my scented geraniums a few weeks ago to help shape them. I noticed the stems where I pruned them are dying back, have truned light brown, and are contiuing to die back further towards the center of the plant. As the dye back progresses, the leaves are also dying off. What did I do wrong? What can I do to remedy this?

Thanks in advance -

Beth

RE: Scented Geranium Pruning Problem

Hi Beth
I'm not sure what the answer is. Did you prune back to just above a leaf node?. Normally if you do this the plant will not rot further down the stem. If you pruned to just below a leaf joint, the plant may die back to the next node. I have read, but not tried, that if you treat the cut surface of the stem with Isopropyl alcohol, this will help prevent rot.
Hope this helps
Ron
