Geranium as Houseplant??

I just got the September Martha Stewart Living and the garden reminder says to pot cuttings of geraniums for keeping as houseplants thru the winter. As I've never tried this, do I take cuttings or can I pot up the entire plant (as is)? I have several of the small bedding variety and if this is an easy-care option, I'd like to have several in our lobby for winter color. Pros? Cons? Hints? Help!

I kept Geranium/Pel. as a houseplant for several winters with no problem.I potted the entire plant and kept it on a south kitchen window sill. I repotted it each spring and pruned it down when it got too leggy. Worked fine. You can also take cuttings. It works fine too.

Hiya Pit! When is the best time to dig them up? Can I do that now and slowly adjust it to lower light levels? Our first frost is usually around September 15th'ish Vera

Well...no need to answer LOL! I dug a few up this morning, potted them up into 10" azalea type containers. The temps today are 83, but will be 69 by Sunday with rain...OMG I can't believe it! I used MG potting soil, but I don't plan on keeping them in the dark or cold. We'll see Vera

I used to have a south facing sliding glass door that was very sunny in winter. It was great! All my Pels basked and bloomed there with no adjustment problems. I think I may miss that this winter!

I've been told this is hard to do, but I figured that if the plants are going to die anyway, I'd give it a try, so I cut some tips of the ivy geranium (pelargonium) baskets I had bought and stuck them in the potting soil I use for my african violets. I put them in a clear tub "greenhouse" in a sunny window. I hope it goes well, and I have new plants by spring. :o) I was afraid they'd get leggy through the winter. I also sprayed with neem oil, because I didn't want to bring too many pests indoors to my other house plants. Please tell me it's not THAT hard to root these buggers.
