Ionidiflorum

The local landscape trade has this wonderful species listed as Geranium ionidiflorum. I thought it was a species Pelargonium. Is there some question about the taxonomy of this plant, or do the landscape suppliers just have the name wrong?

RE: Ionidiflorum

I'd guess they simply have it labeled incorrectly. Pelargonium ionidiflorum is a scented species (although the scent is rather crisp and indistinct) - since these are more often referred to as just "geraniums", it might be easier for them to label them as geraniums rather than pelargoniums, so as not to confuse those in the trade whose forte is NOT botanical names.
