In my experience it's a good idea to trim it and root the cuttings--you can really stick a lot of tip cuttings in the same pot and have a nice full basket. Most nematanthuses (nematanthi?) are trailing I think, but some are upright. You just need to pay attention to what your plant wants to do. The plant you cut back will probably send out new growth from the place where you cut it, and often will send two or even more starts at each cut. It does seem to me tho' that the new pot of cuttings will make a better plant. Ah, youth! As to when--now or wait 'til spring--it probably depends mostly on how much light you can give it. They do well under florescent lights until they get larger, and if you have lights you could do it now. If you don't have a very sunny window or lights, it would probably be better to wait 'til spring.

Thanks, greenelbows! One more question -- does my nematanthus want direct sunlight or filtered? Getting mixed info. It was getting direct western light and seemed to like that but then I read that it doesn't like direct light so I moved it away from the window. I also get southern light. What do you suggest? thanks!

back to the western window. I kept mine near SW window, not directly on it - and it bloomed and bloomed and bloomed.
Nemathantus can take much more light than AVs.
