Oyama pot size for new plants?? Streps and Chirita

Posted by vall3fam 9 CentralCA (My Page) on

I just received a Chirita "Silver Surfer" and two Streps - "Shenandoah Sugarplum" and "Shenandoah Shiloh". They are currently growing in 3" pots.

I would like to switch them over to Oyama pots. What size would be best? The pots come in 4", 5", 6", and I don't want to get too big a pot. I have my semi-mini AV's in 2 1/2" pots and they are happy.

Also, I guess I should ask if the Streps do well in the Oyama pots? Is there any special planting instructions needed for their care?

Thanks for your answers-
Elaine

Hi, Elaine:

I have my Streps and my Chiritas in the Oyama Planters. If you bought from Molly and Patrick Brennan, the plants are big enough to put in either the 4" or 5" planters.

I let my Streps and Chiritas dry a bit between filling the reservoirs.

Happy Growing!
Linda

BTW, if you don't have Shenandoah Premiere, you are missing one gorgeous Strep with wonderful growth habit!

Thanks Linda,

I'm just trying streps again. I've not had good luck with them in the past, but I think I was keeping them too moist. If these do well, more of Molly's streps will find a home here!

I'll have to look up the Shenandoah Premier!

Thanks for the Oyama info. I think I'll get 4", since that is what I use on the standard AV's. That way, if the streps don't like me :(, I can use them on the AV's!

Elaine
