When cutting a leaf, cut close to the soil but leave a stub. Parts of leaves may also be cut. Just cut the upper half of the leaf.

I believe a strep can be reduced to two or three leaves in one pot and remain healthy since when we divide them and repot plantlets that is generally what is used.

Cutting just the top half of a 12 inch leaf should be sufficient for a trade. Some sellers sell only the top three inches of a popular cultivar.

Thanks for the info, Nancy. I was lead to believe that the bottom (closest to the plant) part of the leaf is needed for vigor in producing plantlets. Now I don't have to worry.

Mo, if your plant has a healthy root system, leaving three leaves should do no harm. But if it does not have a full root system, I would leave it alone.

Sellers do often just sell leaf sections. But you are right, the portion at the base is most prolific for producing plantlets.
