Already in bloom!

One of the sinningias I posted about earlier, that I just got on August 4, is already in bloom, and delightfully fragrant. I thought when I read that some sinningias are fragrant it might be one of those 'on the right day, at the right hour, if you hold your nose (that doesn't sound right does it!) at the right angle, and if you have a good imagination...' things, but I'd forgotten all about it when I thought I saw flowers. Rushed out to investigate, and there is no imagination required! Really lovely kind of citrusy sweet scent. It's S. conspicua, and the flowers are creamy yellow slippers, kind of like S. eumorpha, if you know that one--or maybe a floxglove! Plenty more buds coming. I'm really pleased--such nice-sized plants, and such quick service, and this isn't the only one with buds.

Conspicua is a nice one. My plant is in flower too. It grows easily from seed like other sinningias. Also, it does not require a lot of sun, being a shade grower in nature. My plant lives happily in my outdoor shade house.

Oh, thank you for that bit of cultural information, Jon. I think I have it marked 'part shade', but that's not too clear. I get to feeling kind of lonely here without anyone else very interested, and especially not very experienced at growing these guys. THEY think I'm an expert, but I'm so painfully aware I'm not! Don't know what I'd do without the Society and these forums and the g-list.
