What is the ideal form of growth for alsobia chiappas? Mine is 2 stemmed, each between 8-10 inches in length. How is it to be maintained?

My guess would be - it is more of an upright stem plant and for whatever reason it is believed that 3 or 5 is more pleasing than 2 or 4 stems. I hope it will bloom for you - and when it will get too long and leggy - you need to trim it and reroot the tips.

I do not grow it, I grow A. dianthiflora -and it is a trailing plant. I tried to do some search on the subject - and it is the best I could come - since A. "Chiappas' is a realtively new intoduction and not very many people grow it.

I've grown A. 'Chiapas' for a long time. It does grow more stiffly upright and gets rangy and leggy, so planting in groups does look better. It was very easy to bloom, but the flowers are greenish, not as bright as the dianthiflora types. It's still a nice plant, but aren't they all? It's also pretty tough and can take quite a bit of cold and dryness.
