Is my streptocarpus pod ripe?

Posted by dampflippers Tyne & Wear UK (My Page) on

I have a Streptocarpus with lots of long pods. (the one I have in the Gallery)
One is beginning to go brown, and today when I looked at it with a magnifying glass I could see gaps beginning in the spiral.

Is it ready to cut off, or do I need to leave it until the gaps are bigger?

When I have the seeds, can I sow them straight away?

Cut it off now - and be careful - otherwise your seeds are lost. I think it is a perfect time - tomorrow will be too late.

You can sow them right away - or sow 25 seeds and park the rest in a zip bag. If you want to keep them viable for years - put them in a fridge.

I.

I have cut it off and managed not to scatter them all over the windowsill!
I'll sow some tomorrow.
