Zucchini

I grew zucchini last year and didn't pick some of them fast enough so they were huge. I am going to try to grow a giant one this year by only growing one on the whole plant and see what I come up with.

Here's an interesting link about the recordholder

That would be really interesting to see how big it would grow. I know I have grown baseball bat sized ones without even trying (they were growing on the other side of the plant so I didn't see them). I'm thinking that you can easily top that 35lb one that is mentioned in the above link!

RE: Zucchini

zucchini record is 65 lbs by barnard lavery.

RE: Zucchini

You are correct Big Tom! Zucchini world record 65 pounds grown by Bernard Lavery not John Evans. Just goes to show you anyone with a web site can claim anything they think they can get away with. World record marrow 135 pounds.

RE: Zucchini

i beleive john evens holds the record for biggest yellow zuchini

RE: Zucchini

Big Tom,
The Zucchini John displays as the world record was a green Zucchini that has aged. If you look at his web photos you only see green zucchini growing on the plants. Also take notice that the Zucchini photo you refere to does not have a weight with it? All of the others do? I saw it when he entered it at the Alaska State Fair. Green as green can be. To my knowledge Guinness does not differentiate between green and yellow it's all green, marrow or zucchini.

RE: Zucchini

I heard of someone that was crossing zuccini with big max pumpkins (squashkins) . They are both summer squash you know (pepo) . good luck

RE: Zucchini

Ruedee guinnes don't but the alaska state fair does differentiate between green and yellow zucchini.

RE: Zucchini

Again you are correct. However the State Fair Record for a yellow Zucchini is 13.44 pounds held by Rosalie Leiner. I'm telling you John's over rippened orange not yellow Zucchini is no world record. Go to the Alaska State Fair web site and find your way to the Exhibition Crops section. There you will find the record book on Alaskan Giant Veggies. It has not been updated from last year as of yet and there are going to be a few changes but all in all it is pretty accurate.

RE: Zucchini

last summer i grew a zucchini and it weight 12.6 lbs and i got second prize in the fair. my zucchini was smooth but the first place one was all lumpy. it was weird what do you think made his lumpy and mine smooth?
