Hey, Cool, new fourm.
Hey what is some of the current records of some of the veggies out there?
I know that pumkins broke the 1000lb. barrier a few years ago. Whats it up to now?
How about the OS cross cabbages grown in Alaska, whats the record now?
I'll spread the word about the new fourm.

| Well, the official world record is Steve Daletas' 1,385, though there was a pumpkin grown by Bruce Whittier, from NH that grew a 1,458, but it developed a pin hole in the pumpkin, so he could not take it to competition to make it a world record Don't know about the cabbage, I think it is in the 120 pound range though. It seem that Bruce Whittier is holding an ace up his sleeve, with the seed genetics from his unofficial record for this upcoming season. We'll see.
Do you know if his seed are a strain of Atlantic Giant?
Are those Giant Cabbages from the Os Cross strain?

| Jon, Bruce Whittier's pumpkins are all from the Atlantic strain, he just uses http://www.neptunesharvest.com/ fertilizer! I think he told me about 10 gallons last year on 8 plants. Has some AMAZING soil, I am sure, and he must prune them to perfection :~) He got his pumpkin from a 582 Hester, so, it is not HIS specific strain :~) I am thinking of buying a gallon of Neptune harvest for my plants, seeing how good his plants do with them :) Cabbage, I don't know, I just saw them on the Giants Of the Garden website. | Great new forum, thanks Spike. Just bought some giant veggie seeds including pumpkin to give to my little grand-nephews. Anyone have any good ideas on how to easily dispose of 100 lb. plus pumpkins once Halloween's over? (I'll have to keep peace in the family with their parents after all). Thanks, Peggy |

the cabbage record is 124 lb grown by bernard lavery
from the hercules variety. Not OS cross cabbages grown in alaska where the state record is only 105 lb. |

| Wow! This forum is sort of like minor leaguers watching the big leaguers play and learning from them. (Using sports analogies because of spring training in Arizona) I cannot wait to learn from others. Perhaps one day I can play in the "giant" leagues. -Scott |

| Peggy...my giant pumpkin got carved for Halloween, then it got used for sighting in my rifle, then it got chopped up and put into the compost pile. They are mostly water, so they decompose pretty quickly. Brigitte |

| The largest cabbage ever grown in Alaska was the Northern Giant variety. Grown by Barb Everingham. It had no head but weighed 105.6 pounds. With a head it would have easily broken the world record. The Northern Giant variety is not a reliable heading type cabbage. Neither is Bernard's Hercules variety. You can't beat the OS Cross variety for reliabilty. |
