Giant Sunflower newbie questions

Posted by HabRob z7 PA (My Page) on

I'm planning on trying to grow some giant sunflowers next year but I have some questions about basic care...

Do I start seeds indoors? If so how many weeks prior to transplanting?

When do you transplant sunflowers outside? How many weeks after the last frost or what should the minimum night time temps be?

What is the recommended soil pH for sunflowers?

I'd appreciate any information or feedback. Thanks in advance!!

RE: Giant Sunflower newbie questions

Sunflowers are simple to grow. They are not picky about soil.I give mine a fair amount of water, and they grow fast. They were planted from seed about 6 weeks ago and are now about 5 ft. tall. You should have no trouble starting them now in zone 7. If you wait until next year, I'm sure it would be best to start them indoors. Good Luck!!
