Comments please on AG situation

| My AG got a really slow start but seems to finally be doing well. The vine is about 6-7 feet long now and is growing well. My first female flower has appeared and is going to open tomorrow. Although it is only about 5 feet out on the primary, I plan on pollenating it and seeing what happens. I don't really have any secondaries yet -- they are less than a foot long. Comments invited -- The books I've read all say try for a pumpkin 10-14 feet out on the primary. Should I cull this one ?

| Being as you're kind of my mentor, all I can contribute is that the AG pumpkin that is my keeper is indeed growing 10 feet or so from the planting hole on the primary vine. Things just happened that way. I didn't hand pollenate. Nature knows best. Or better than me anyway. |

| Deep_Roots: your situation was my situation last year. This year my plant was really slow growing and this is the first real pumpkin to show up (an earlier one 18 inches out on the primary died). The vine is growing about 6 inches per day or so and is looking very healthy despite our 100 degree weather. Will keep you posted on things. Wayne |
