Okay, I think I want to try this....!

Hi folks,

I never really paid much attention to the "giant vegetables" in the seed catalogues before but found myself reading this forum...and since I just moved into a place with a huge garden, I figure I have room to play with new and different things! They grow some very large squash here anyway, mostly a gray/blue one with lines like a pumpkin and rather squat, with beautiful smooth deep orange flesh; I'd say they get to around 50 pounds; they sell hunks of them at the neighborhood farmers' markets.

I'm looking forward to seeing pictures of some of your giants, and if someone has a few seeds to spare, I'd be a glad recipient. (I can reciprocate with good local varieties of peppers if you are interested in that sort of things, or seeds of our big gray/blue pumpkin.)

Of course there is the question of what do with such a behemoth...I suppose if I'm successful, I can always make a killing at the farmer's market, or donate it to a (very large) soup kitchen!

Bob...I'd be interested in swapping seeds from my larger giant pumpkins and squash for some of the blue squash you speak of. Where can I see a picture of the blue squash?

I actually took some pictures of some cut ones in the market last year, I'll see if I can find them. It wasn't a particularly huge one, just medium; I shot it more for the effect. Otherwise I'll wait till they start showing up in the market and shoot them again. I'll have to wait till then to get the seeds anyway. :)
