Turkish Squash, Photo

Hi,

Here is a picture of the squash variety I mentioned. Here it is known as "Adapazarý" squash. (Adapazarý being a town a couple hours east of Istanbul, it appears on some maps as "Sakarya.") These aren't that large; I've seen much larger, as in easily twice this size, but they've just started showing up in the markets. With some "super pumping" from giant vegetable people perhaps they could do something interesting. :) I got seeds of this from the guy if anyone's interested.

P.S. They taste really good too. ;)

why show king squash have been grown to 1018 lbs and 1063 lbs this years.

Why? Because 1) I have seen very large ones, 2) because they are cool, and 3) because someone earlier asked for a photo. :)

Thanks for posting that photo sazji......thats a nice squash-strong ribs, decent solid color...looks like a pumpkin etc. Giant pumpkins and giant squash look better on display with an assortment of smaller different colored and interesting shaped pumpkins and squash and, after all, it is display season! I'm still interested in a seed swap if possible...we'll chat later when seeds get harvested and dried etc...thanks for the picture........G

Hi they are interesting, I have seen some like them, that Baker's Creek Heirloom Seed has. I like the way many of them taste and with care they do get very large maybe not as large as the Atlantic type can grow, but still quite large. I hapen to like mine steamed with butter and salt and pepper, rather than made in to a soup or Pie. this may be a giant vegetable group, but I can't eat a pumpkin the size of a car. Maybe we can make Pumpkin Gasoline out of them. Hah!

I am growing them this year, and they have done great in full sun. I would guess a couple more weeks to harvest.
